Love this, "French Market," theme. One of many things I love next to white sand beaches and pretty pastels. Thinking of you, Lynda Murtha! Visit her serene stream here:
For Lynda & Tom Lynda Murtha PhotoArt ~ - wishing you many more years filled with early evening light, Tim's, soft Summer breezes off the lake... and each other. Happy Fence Friday, everyone, such a lovely group of far-flung friends we've created here. :)
I didn't realize it at the time, but the title of this image was prescient. I dedicate this to my dear friend Lynda Murtha, and her late husband, Tom. They seemed to have such a joyous relationship that gave me good happy vibes from afar.
In memory of Tish Murtha, a photographer I have never met and was all I am not. I am an armchair photographer, doing most things at home, sometimes looking at matters from a distance, an amateur with attitude. She was out there, not just 'socially committed', she shared the life of those she photographed and because of that she was able to show their humanity in the midst of Thatcher-induced misery. She died far too early. Sony A7iii plus Pentacon 3.5/30 at F11.

Explored! #425 on 9/24/2024! Thanks, everyone.
As I've discussed a couple times already, I head north to Murtha and Wellfare Roads when I want to avoid "the usual" photographs without making a lengthy excursion. A year ago I had a specific photo in mind--today's outtake, as it happens. This little meadow's at the corner of Tupper Lake and Murtha Roads and I always find cattle grazing. This view's from Murtha.
I also found a nice image on Wellfare, and shared that in color a year ago. And I found another barn on Tupper Lake Road.

The fence I photographed for last year's daily project is one of my common subjects, though I found a different perspective last May 18.

A preview from a recent fairly spontaneous shoot with the lovely Eilish Murtha! I'd been driving home from a shoot the previous day and came across bunches of sweetpeas being sold at the edge of the road. Naturally, I came home with a forest worth and luckily this freckled beauty was up for modelling! More from this set coming soon :]

My general plan, a year ago, was to take a photo of the power lines that parallel Charlotte Highway a few miles north of Mulliken, using my iPhone for the day's camera. The photo I took, and posted, was probably not the photo I had in mind when I left the house. But that's OK; I like it....
==========
Murtha Road's only about a mile long, but it's attractive, with woodlots and a couple very differently photogenic farms. And at the northern end it's near the edge of the Portland State Game Area. I often head for Murtha when I just want some attractive rural photos. Last July 7 it was my route to the wires I planned to photograph.
This trip found a few deer in Murtha's soybeans, one of which decided to cross the road in front of me as I framed a photo of the trees and the fields. Thus today's image.

This is a view looking north along Ford Street in Barton Hill, Bristol, photographed on Sunday 20th May 2007. At the end of the vista is Barton House (1958) which, at a height of fifteen stories, was reputed to have been the tallest housing block outside London at the time of its construction. So, in the foreground we have typical Bristolian dwellings of the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, while in the background is typical high-rise mass housing of the mid to late twentieth century, as found in most British cities.
I recently discovered the photographic work of the late Tish Murtha, who documented marginalised communities, social realism and working class life in Newcastle upon Tyne and the North East of England in the early 1980s and beyond. Her remarkable photos of poor children in New Elswick had a particular impact on me, and triggered the memory of the photo shown above from my own archive. While I would not dare to compare my photo with Murtha's work, I'd like to think that it shares something of the same spirit despite the differing places, times and circumstances.
These images also caused me to reflect on the fact that such impromptu photos of children, whether they be portraits or candids, are no longer possible unless one has explicit permission or the child happens to be one's own (as is the case here). I think there are good reasons for this situation but that doesn't stop me feeling sad about where we are now as a society.
Notice how the overhead wires that run diagonally across the top of the frame have been completely blown out in front of the sky. This image is based on an in-camera JPEG, with minimal post-processing in Lightroom. New then to digital photography I didn't shoot RAW at all but had I done so the RAW file might have allowed those wires to be recovered.
PACIFIC OCEAN (Nov. 3, 2021) Aviation Boatswain’s Mate 3rd Class Marqese Jones, from Fayetteville, North Carolina, assigned to amphibious transport dock ship USS John P. Murtha (LPD 26), directs an MH-60S Seahawk attached to the “Wild Cards” of Helicopter Sea Combat Squadron (HSC) 23 to land on the flight deck during flight quarters in support of NASA Underway Recovery Test Nine (URT-9). This marks the ninth Navy underway recovery test in support of the NASA Artemis mission and the third time a URT has taken place aboard John P. Murtha. The Navy has many unique capabilities that make it an ideal partner for supporting NASA, including its amphibious capabilities with the ability to embark helicopters, launch and recover small boats, three-dimensional air search radar, and advanced medical facilities.
