For Tuesday it's back to the footbridge on top of the roundhouse at Grafton West Virginia where we have a GP40 still in B&O paint and a Chessie GP40-2 taking a spin around the turntable. April 23, 1977.

A turntable is a device for horizontally turning rail vehicles, less often road vehicles. This process was primarily performed on steam locomotives with a tender, which can only run in the forward direction at their maximum speed.
Wikipedia

By the year 1990, the sanding tower and turntable were all that remained of the steam era maintenance facility in the joint Union Pacific - Utah Railway yard in Provo, Utah. New comfort cab EMD and GE units await assignment the morning of July 7th.

A Pennsylvania RR GP9 and F7 go for a spin on the turntable at Crestline. This would have been Good Friday 1966. At that time the RR was still using a few stalls of the roundhouse but it was already in decrepit condition. Some of it was being used for storing bulk materials. Don't remember what happened after their spin. I'd hate to think that they went out on a local and we didn't. So we'll assume that they were just geting put away.
For one last view before dark, CSX was able to spot the pair on the turntable at their yard at Russell, KY for a rare view.
Rain clouds are rolling out at sunset as the crew sends their power to the roundhouse. NCTM's FP7, Southern 6133, goes for a spin on the turntable in the day's last light. A twist on the typical pan shot, this was a long exposure done while following the turntable as it was in motion. It took a few tries to get it right, but manages to capture the motion of the world around the still locomotive.
WM 7166 gets a ride on the turntable at Cumberland, MD on July 1, 1978. This was the infamous rainy weekend trip a bunch of us took to Cumberland and Altoona where it rained pretty much the entire time. We drove straight from home near Rochester, NY all the way to Cumberland. Towards evening we drove up to the Altoona area where we spent the next 3 days, mostly parked under the 17th St. bridge by ALTO Tower to stay dry..
Don River Railway continues to have old rolling stock donated. But as the collection grows, so does the need for funds and volunteers. Most of the pieces seen here are static displays, but restoration work continues.
A near disaster occurred in the early hours of 4 April, 2023, when fire broke out in a couple of sheds destroying some carriages that were being worked on. As usual the fire department did a superb job of containing the blaze. www.abc.net.au/news/2023-04-04/fire-workshop-tasmania-don...
One great feature at Don River Railway is the large turntable seen here with the Beyer Peacock 4415 (1902) steam locomotive on it.
