Happy Friday everyone! Today September 9th is Teddy Bear Day! Since Bromley has been sitting inside my computer since July when I took him to the beach, I thought today would be a great day to share him with you.
He is part of my treasured collection of Boyds Bears which I collected in the 90's for photo shoots like this. He is 8" tall and oversees my work while creating at my desk.
He used to travel with me in my camera bag when we'd go to motorcycle drag races in BC, Alberta, Saskatchewan in Canada, Washington and Oregon states. I became known as the Bear Lady even though I was there to photograph the racers. This is because I would create cards depicting life scenarios using my small bears who were 6 to 10 inches tall.
It was a form of still life and at some point I will haul them out again and throw some new scenarios into the mix of what I do now. The only reason I stopped making those images was because we had to move 4 times in five years after my husband's illness became life altering. The situation made it difficult to create since all of my bears were in totes stored away and for a long time we didn't have the space for me to play.
After the sixth move two years ago, I'm creating new work with stories in mind again. Most of the bears are still in totes but some are making their way into my office again. At some point as in this one, they'll make the odd appearance that will share a story, spark a memory or just be here to make you smile.
There are a few images that I scanned into Flickr here in my albums but there are hundreds left unseen because they are from the film days and scanning doesn't happen unless I'm in the mood or find enough energy to locate the loose photos that are also still in totes.
IN the meantime, I am focusing on series of inspired images created with a story in mind like the childhood or faerie series.
So, Bromley says .... have an awesome day. He's spending it sunbathing at Crescent Beach because ya know, ... bears like to sunbath too!! Enjoy!
