NASCAR Racing Legend Bobby Allison

Robert Arthur Allison (born December 3, 1937) is a former American professional stock car racing driver and owner. Named one of NASCAR's 50 greatest drivers, he was the 1983 Winston Cup champion and won the Daytona 500 three times in 1978, 1982, and 1988. His two sons, Clifford and Davey Allison, followed him into racing, and both died within a year of each other. Allison was born December 3, 1937 in Miami, FL. He entered his first race as a senior at Archbishop Curley-Notre Dame High School in Miami. Since he was only 17, he had to have his parents' permission so he thought when his mother approved, it was forever, but she thought it was for only one race.[citation needed] After graduating high school in 1955, Allison's mother thought she would derail his racing interest by sending him to Wisconsin to work for Mercury Outboard Motors, where her brother-in-law, Jimmy Hallett, was the national sales manager. Unbeknownst to her, Carl Kiekhaefer was the owner of Mercury Outboard Motors, where Allison ended up working as a mechanic and an engine tester. Carl Kiekhaefer also owned racecars. While employed at Mercury Outboard Motors, Allison worked in the boat division for 10 months, then was transferred to the racecar division. During the 2 months he worked in the racecar division for Carl Kiekhaefer, he went to 19 races—mostly Grand National (today known as the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series), and a few Convertible races. Every one of those races was won by a Carl Kiekhaefer car from the shop in which he worked. Kiekhaefer was a hard person to work for and several people got fired, so Allison decided to go back to Miami only after a little over 2 months. In 1956, having returned to Miami, Allison started his own racing again. His parents said he couldn't race and live at home, so Allison came up with a fictitious name (Bob Sunderman) which was used only once as he finished well enough to make the Sunday paper. Allison's father saw the paper and told him that if he was going to race to do it with honor and use his own name. In 1959, Allison took his brother, Donnie, Kenny Andrews—who owned a car (whose father owned Andy Racing Wheels) and Gil Hearne went along as Kenny's driver on a quest for more lucrative racing than was available in South Florida. Their searching led them to Montgomery Motor Speedway in Montgomery, Alabama, where he was told of a race that very night in Midfield, Alabama near Birmingham. Allison entered and finished 5th in that race, which paid more than finishing 2nd in any big race in South Florida. He went to Montgomery the next night, won the preliminary races, and finished 2nd in the feature, winning $400, having found his lucrative racing. The brothers returned home and Bobby talked his friend Red Farmer into coming back to Alabama with him. They had immediate success and soon they began answering to the name The Alabama Gang. Allison became a known driver and won the national championship in the modified special division in 1962.

This is a full frame shot from the shoot I did with mi madre a few weeks ago, This was taken at the house I first lived in, which is now in disarray, my great grandmother lived there before the 80s, then my parents till '95. Now nobody lives there and it's falling apart.

This was shot on Kodak E100G Film with a Mamiya C330.

By the way all, started a new required blog for school.

A shot of my mom from a few weeks ago, This shot was on E100G Ektachrome Film with a Mamiya C330 Twin Lens.

This was actually double exposed originally, so the shot was ruined, when i came back home I decided I really wanted to reshoot it, and I'm glad I did. I am absolutely in love with the tones in this image.

This is a bit outside my normal style, I was shooting for more of a fine art look with this shot and less in terms of the "magical" look that I'm typically recognized by.

I hope you guys really enjoy it!

This photograph is the last all-studio portrait taken at Hanna-Barbera Cartoons. Time Warner had bought Turner Broadcasting (owner of HB) and folded the studio into Warner Bros. Animation. WBA chief Jean MacCurdy made the decision to fold HB. Eventually, it resurrected as Cartoon Network Studios. Luckily, Bill Hanna and Joe Barbera were able to sit for this last portrait of the company they founded.

So I know a few of you may be staring at this image and thinking. This is not the picture I was looking at an hour ago.

Well, I decided to delete the other one and put this one up. Because I like it a lot more.

It totally encompasses my mom's personality a lot more.

The clothes pictured were my Great Grandma Jospehine's.

Now the mushy stuff again.

I love my mom, she has put up with so much from me, and would do absolutely anything to make me happy.

Today was the best time we've had in a long time.

It's been a while since my last big production, but here's one of a few that are coming up this week!

This is the incredible Cali Lowdermilk, who appears in one other shot in my photo stream.

I have summer portfolio coming up and I had the idea of painting a face up to look like a softer version of the popular "Sugar Skulls" that frequent Dia de los Muertos festivals.

Took about 2 days to make the set with the help of Kathy Sunderman.

The makeup was a collaborative effort by Melissa Melvin Rodriguez, Holly Rose Mann, Cali, and myself.

Hope you guys like it!

DECONSTRUCTING ROY LICHTENSTEIN

BEFORE AND AFTER

EDWARD RUNCI

Record Catch 1956

ROY LICHTENSTEIN

Look Mickey 1961

Original Artists : Bob Grant and Bob Totten

BOB GRANT

Bob Grant was one of the classic Disney artists, who mainly worked on Disney comics for the daily press. From 1939 to 1940, he drew the 'Pluto' Sunday page. Afterwards, he took on the 'Little Hiawatha' Sunday comic. All these Sunday pages appeared under the name 'Silly Symphonies'. From 1947 to 1962, he drew the 'Walt Disney's Merry Menagerie' cartoon series. Bob Grant drew the daily 'Scamp' comic from 1956 to 1962 and from 1965 to 1968. He also drew funny animal comics for Dell/Western in the early 1950s, and later for ACG/Creston.

One of Grant's illustrations starring Mickey Mouse and Donald Duck was the inspiration for Roy Lichtenstein's piece 'Look Mickey!' (1961).

It would seem that Lichtenstein was even less original than many of his existing detractors had thought.

Although Lichtenstein had been using comic book imagery in his paintings since 1957, he did not do large canvases reproducing single comic strip panels featuring speech balloons until he painted Look Mickey in the summer of 1961 - four months after he had, by his own admission, seen Warhol's canvases. Warhol had been painting single comic strip panels featuring speech balloons since 1960 - a year earlier than Lichtenstein. It is possible that Lichtenstein, as Warhol suspected, had seen Warhol's paintings at Bonwit Teller, although Lichtenstein never mentioned it in interviews. In any case, Lichtenstein admitted having seen Warhol's cartoon paintings prior to doing his own single panel comic strip paintings featuring speech balloons (Look Mickey).

Edward Runci (July 4, 1921-July 1986)

Edward Runci was born in Genoa, Italy in 1921 and was brought up by his mother and grandparents in the coastal town of Catania, Sicily. The tranquil setting coupled with his mothers encouragement moved Runci to start drawing at an early age.

In 1930 he move to the United States with his mother and brother, joining his father in Pennsylvania. Despite Edward Runci wining a painting contest and being offered a scholarship his father forced him to quit school and seek employment. The family moved to Detroit in 1937, and shortly after Edward Runci joined the Marine Corps. During this time he met Maxine Sunderman at the Hollywood Canteen and they were married later that same year, in 1943. Maxine was a gifted artist herself, and often posed for her husbands paintings.

Runci's career took off after the war had finished, with his first public viewing in 1945. Soon after he was a highly sought after portait artist "to the stars and residents of Hollywood". He started producing his pin-up and calendar girls in the late forties, moving on to advertising in the early fifties. His wife Maxine, also produced a number of pin-up and glamour paintings at the same time.

Edward Runci (July 4, 1921-July 1986)

Was a Sicilian-born painter who moved to the United States in the 1930s. Runci's career took off after World War II and he was well known for his paintings of pin-up girls as well as his advertisements for companies such as Coca-Cola. Although most known for his paintings of women, Runci also painted clowns, landscapes and was a portraitist for the Hollywood elite. Runci spent his last decades in Big Bear Lake, CA where he had a studio and art school.
