The old farmer got hisself one o' them new-fangled "eye-phones." But shucks, the durned thing didn't help his eyes at all; he still needed his specs to even see what the heck time it was!!

Hi there!
I couldn't help but want to post a cheerful flower today because it's snowing right now. I guess fall wasn't going to last forever. Shucks!
Thank you for stopping by and for leaving me a comment. I do love hearing from you!
Have a lovely day!

have yourself a merry little christmas
Have yourself a merry little Christmas
Let your heart be light
From now on
Your troubles will be out of sight
Have yourself a merry little Christmas
Make the Yule-tide gay
From now on
Your troubles will be miles away
Here we are as in olden days
Happy golden days of yore
Faithful friends who I dear to us
They gather near to us once more
Through the years
We'll always be together
If the Fates allow
Hang a shining star upon the highest bough
So have yourself a merry little Christmas
Have yourself a merry little Christmas
So have yourself a merry little Christmas now

The gates of Heaven must be open
I think I saw an angel just walk by
Hey, the gates of heaven must be open
I think I saw an angel just walk by
I heard a blind man screamin', say
Now there goes a sight for my sore eyes
There goes a sight for my sore eyes
Now there goes a sight for my sore eyes
What kind of woman is this?
You should be locked up, pretty girl
In my bedroom with me
Hey, you should be locked up, pretty girl
In my bedroom with me
So we can do the same thing that Adam
Did under that old apple tree
What he did under that apple tree
What he did under that apple tree
Well, well, well, well, well, well
Choke out
Here I come again
There's always some good lookin' girls
Hangin' 'round this famous place
Well, hey, there's always some good lookin' girls
Hangin' round this famous place, talkin' bout legends now
Aww, but this particular one
Looked like somethin' from outer space
She looked like somethin' from outer space
What kind of woman is this?
Hmm, what kind of woman is this?
What kind of woman is this?
Ooh, what kind of woman is this?
Look at that, she shakes all over when she walk
She made a blind man see
Made a dumb man talk
What kind of woman is this?
Hmm, shucks
Tell me, hey, what kind of woman is this, man?
Somebody gotta, gotta, gotta, gotta
Gotta, gotta, gotta tell me, tell me
What kind of woman is this?
Our grebes seem to be behind schedule. This time the last couple of years, I would have been watching several families by now. This year, nothing. A few pairs floating around together, but no babies. Till today. And they were SO far away. I watched them off and on for almost 3 hours, expecting some fishing and other family routines, hoping they would come closer. Mostly, I got an occasional swimming lesson. Shucks, I could barely use my Sony bird-eye focus since the parents were dozing most of the time. In spite of my complaining, it was a joyous occasion.
Fun with burrowing owls. Yes, the one on the right has its head rotated a full 180 degrees!
Thanks so much to everyone who takes the time to view, like or comment on my photos!

I thought and thought about images I have in the Holiday colors and subjects. No Cedar Waxwings with berries - shucks, I haven't even SEEN a Cedar Waxwing this winter. No holly and ivy, all I could think of is my bright Vermilions, just had to find one with a reasonably green background or embellishment. So here he is, wishing everyone a joyous holiday season, and good weather, light and opportunities for the New Year.
It's not the raptor I was looking for on this nice Fall morning, but it's a really good consolation prize. Shucks, any raptor that gives me more than 5 seconds before it flies is a win. This one gave me somewhere around 4-5 minutes while I worked for the catchlight in the eye. Red-shouldereds always seem so challenging in that regard, but this one came through for me for a few shots, and even let me climb up the hillside for a better view.

Another of my Panda shots, only a couple more to go that i should get through this week.
Hope you all had a wonderful Monday!
Oh yea! good news! the computer people called and said they think they got almost all if not all of my photos off of my old hard drive, should find out Wednesday night for sure how many.
Some might think that this title is a good description of what I’ve done with the processing here. But shucks, when we're stuck at home, we gotta do somethin' to stay busy, and foolin' around with photos is one way to do that.
Anyway, I prefer to think of this image as a metaphor for what all of our brave doctors, nurses, hospital personnel and first responders are doing on a daily basis--heading straight into the storm to meet vital societal needs despite the danger swirling around them. A heartfelt thanks to all of them for their over-the-top service during this time of crisis.

From my safari to South Dakota - started out as a balmy spring day - next day the landscape was blanketed in fresh snow. I actually really enjoy the prairie dogs, a highlight of my trip, and well shucks, it was sure hard to find them the next day. I bet they were a bit surprised themselves.
There are a couple of things that make this image really special: There is water where it shouldn't be from our unusual wet winter, having flooded a grassy field area of a regional park, and a sandpiper IN the flooded grassy field. This was an area of the park that saw a welcomed replenishment of its marshy area not to mention some overflow of the usual boundaries. One more thing that made it so special - I've never been this close to a sandpiper. Shucks, I did happen to wear my camo duds that day, and I did creep slowly toward the area where it was, but IT came closer to me as I sat in the damp and watched.
Turns out my clothes got more than "damp". Luckily I had a plastic tarp in the car I could lay on my plush leather seat for the drive home to a hot shower. 😉
aw shucks issa. thank you so much. it means the world to me to be chosen as a cover. what an honor.

I was hoping for a nice misty/foggy morning to provide some atmosphere, especially for when we got higher up at Rhosydd. Unfortunately the cloud/fog settled lower and by the time Darcy and I got up to Rhosydd amongst the ruins the fog was so dense everything was a featureless grey wall. Shucks. I will just have to go back again to try and get those shots. Similarly back at the Tanygrisiau end of the Cwmorthin valley the sun threatened to break through the low cloud (hence the blue varying to yellowy sky) but decided to wimp out. Despite that I still think it looks beautiful.
Autumn all aboard, autumn is packing up and leaving town, just a couple more weeks of the sun in the Autumn equinox mode before reaching the final destination and flipping over to winter on the shortest day.
Shucks, I haven't even finished culling last winter's hoodies, and here they are again already. I learned something new, meanwhile, that they can snap off a leg or two, I suppose makes for easier eating. This is the frame that came after the vigorous shake, so she's dropping the leg and the crayfish is flying. Not for long.
Another gray day on the beach, still looking for terns. It was really early and really overcast, shucks, what better light to shoot a black bird. 😏 But this one was special - one I'd never seen before. The Black Turnstone is allegedly "common", wintering along rocky ocean shores. This was not rocky - low tide in the mouth of the Santa Ana River where it empties into the Pacific. Worth the trip.
The harvest is in now, The geese are heading south while the leaves turn brown and fall from the trees. The mighty oaks are showing their charcoal black silhouettes against the cloudy gray skies. A cold northwest wind begins to blow across the surface of the fields as the corn shucks drift along as if empowered by some invisible force. Inside a warm house the farmer sips his coffee, checks the ever changing grain prices, and plans a trip to the first farm show of the winter season. Outside the old wooden barns and sheds stand silent amidst the bracing cold winds as birds begin to flock and migrate to warmer climes. It seems like everyone has a refuge from the storms of life except these silent prairie sentinels standing across the landscape like aging wooden ships. No one thinks of them now. No one cares. Only the lonely prairie photographer in his muck boots and faded Carharts knows the real beauty of this time of year when a stiff north wind stings your face as ice forms around your mouth and in your beard. Hands stiff with cold maneuver the camera into a relationship with the fabulous aging windswept barns. This is as good as it gets folks. Let others sit on a warm couch watching NFL football. I’ve got work to do. Cheers.
Another shot from the Open House at the Swan Island Dahlia Farm... I got a lot of the different blooms but I didn't get near 1/2 of what they had to offer...

I thought I'd go with an all mono week but then last night's sunset spoiled it. Tonight's sunset was pretty cool too.
Shucks.
:-)
No, really, it was a nice Spring day. At least, the day before it was Spring, nice and warm and sunny. Of all things, it snowed over night. I bet the prairie dogs were just a bit surprised. Anyway, I made some mistakes on this trip a few years back. I had a new Sony mirrorless, adapted to my old Canon gear so it was a learning curve I wish I had left for the local park. I've been pining to rectify ever since. Not that I expect to get snowed on, or to find bison babies. Looking forward to spending some time in these Black Hills of South Dakota again.
With that adapter, the EXIF data really comes out whacked. I'm betting I had a 1.4 tele on that lens maybe. The big mistake here was shooting the cropped sensor size on the full frame camera, tossing away half the pixels. I bought 24 mp, I shoulda used 'em. Shucks, I coulda just used a longer lens. Duh ...
Apologies for another shot of the Forth Rail Bridge (or rather approach girders in this case) but this one just seemed to sit right on the stream just now. Possibly not to everyone's taste but, after toying with it for a while, I've decided to give it a permanent run out.
It features an unidentified Scotrail class 68 'Cat' working the 7.36am Cardenden - Edinburgh Waverley (2K18), passing above the village of North Queensferry.
Thinking the Cat might return, I used the virtual signal diagram app to follow it through to platform 2 at Waverley station. Sadly I was out of luck - it changed headcode to 5K19 and then departed as empty stock to Motherwell TMD. Shucks.
I opted for this side of the viaduct in the early sun looking for some contrejour and silhouette effects. After trying the 16-35mm and getting lens flare, I changed to the 24-105 where the deeper lens hood avoided the worst of the glare. I quite like the mono finish of this one. Best viewed full screen.

Shucks, I had no intention of coming up with the male version of the giant black bee I posted yesterday. Lo and behold, a male showed up at my Mexican Sage this morning. He's just as big as she is too. The yellow in the background is Lantana, which the bees and butterflies love, although these carpenter bee things are partial to the flowering sage. Thanks to Ethan and Lou for the ID help, and be sure and check him out "large".
Three Fingered Jack, Lower Canyon Creek Meadows, Oregon
Went on another little late-night adventure to the Willamette National Forest. I was hoping to get to the Upper Meadows, but right as you're getting to the top near the meadows everything is covered in snow. Shucks! I figured since it's been a bit of a warm spring it might have cleared up a bit, but alas it was not so. I will have to come back in August for the wildflowers. However, the Lower Meadows were very delightful (minus the mosquitos) and still offered fantastic views. The trail itself has really beautiful mossy trees nearer the meadows and offers wonderful views of the Three Sisters and Mt. Washington, however I recommend doing the trail either earlier or later in the day as most of it is quite exposed (it seems there was a great fire there at some point and a lot of the trees are dead/burned).
Today we celebrate Mother's Day. The weather this weekend has been absolutely beautiful. So while the guys were at the farm getting it busy for planting this years crop I spent the day with my daughter. This morning we attended a Spring craft show, then we went and had a nice lunch out and then went to the garden centre before we headed back home. The day will end with a nice BBQ steak dinner. I was gifted this sugar cookie from my kids, along with a candle and some flowers. I feel the love today and it is wonderful. Happy Mother's Day to all the moms. I hope your day is as special as you are. 💜
I cooked!
That's the makings of a very hearty pea soup on the wooden spoon which has been in my family for over 50 years!
Technically, although we received over 10 inches of snow, New York City did not have sustained winds of 35 mph which would qualify the storm as a blizzard. Shucks!
Oh, Mom, When's lunch? We're hungry...
Well, Kids, you will just have to wait a little while, I'm busy with another project at the moment..
Aw! Shucks...
Happy Teddy Bear, Tuesday, Everybody!!
My hair always gets frizzy in summer. Oh shucks.

Hearing that there was a chance BNSF 2745 - a GP30 carbody in nearly prestine BN cascade green paint - would be out running around Lincoln this morning, I headed out bright and early only to find 2745 in the trailing position. Worse, it was parked in Havelock which for a Saturday likely meant it wasn't going to be doing much of anything. Giving it my usual "aw shucks", I parked my car and got on my phone to try and find something else to do - stalling just long enough so that just before I was about to leave, a crew arrived and boarded the set of engines.
Taking off from Havelock westbound, I figured they were moving the power back to the main Hobson yard in Lincoln, since the "Zephyr" transfer was already out and about with a pair of oranges. I was however suprised to see the greens turn up the wye by the stadium towards the aiport. I thought they must be wyeing the power, but upon second viewing it looked as if the lite power move had continued towards the aiport, which as far as I know BNSF doesn't have any business around except a car storage yard. Sure enough, it was shortly confirmed by another local buff that they were grabbing storage cars to take back to Havelock.
Immediately, I got in position by the Salt Creek truss bridge, which provided a much cooler shot than anything I was anticipiating to get today, and before long 2745 in the lead of the storage move came into view and across the bridge.
Needless to say, I was a very happy man this morning.
