I went back yesterday and tried to get another shot of this pond scum. This time the scum was greener and the light was more even. I still like the first one better though!
Again, we are going to play a little game here called, ‘Guess What Donna was Focusing On?’
Why am I concerned with that? Because obviously it wasn’t what I thought I was focused on.
No more pond scum for me!
The original pond scum photo taken in August is embedded in one of the early comments.
Yes, I did intentionally go with Pond Scum for today’s photo. I’ll tell you why. I had four possible choices.
1. Some sailboats from this weekend’s Turkey Shoot regatta. But I have been watching them race for two days and can’t face another sail boat right now.
2. A nice white church for Sunday. However, Sunday is nearly over here and, in fact, it is over in many parts of the world. So we will put that one on the back burner for awhile.
3. An old house, but I feel I am becoming too predictable and I want to change it up a bit.
4. Several blurry Bald Eagles, as they were flying and I was trying to find the right camera settings, and didn’t. Then I went back to photographing sailboats, and here come three Bald Eagles right over my head. More fumbling with the camera settings, some minor cursing and then trying to find them through the viewfinder in the sky. That produced more blur, a fairly in focus wing and some more cursing.
So out of all these choices, pond scum seem like the best. I hope you enjoy!

Two days ago I was out shooting pictures and I found a pond covered in brown scum. I snapped about 20 photos thinking it would look really artistic. There were trees framing the pond. Beautiful yet disgusting.
They came out “rubbish”, so I am posting two photos of sailboats in a local marina.
This one comes to Virginia all the way from the State of Washington on the West Coast.

Because green is still my favorite color! And because the pond scum situation at the arboretum is so much improved, this year there's some bright color on the water, in previous years the algae would get so thick that birds would walk around on it and grass would grow on it.Well done, arboretum!
