Riverside Restaurant, University Centre, Cambridge. Perception perplexity. Let me explain: what you see is a mirror behind the vases and a reflection of the restaurant and one of the staff ladies. Gorgeous curvaciousness, eh! The vases, I hasten to add:-))

Didn't try it but it looked pretty early morning.

I waited for these plate glass carrier cars to go by to catch the sky behind them.

This area next to an abandoned restaurant has become a fave of mine for sunsets. It faces southwest down the Hackensack River with CSX railroad bridges and trestles providing perfect silhouettes.

Amazing restaurant tucked deep in the jungles of Bentong, right next to Keratong River. Surreal experience to be able to dine in such breathtaking ambience and listening to the rhythm of the falling rain and flowing river.

Riverside Restaurant, Cambridge University Centre. The best restaurant with the best views in town! The view may get blurry like this after a bit of indulgence:-))

Explore: Jul 1, 2008 #451. Magda is the Assistant Restaurant Manager at Riverside, University Centre. She's from Poland. A natural shot in natural light. Like her colleague Matthew, she was busy laying out the tables when I sneaked in. I called her and snap:-) Once again I found women can be so fussy about their looks: "Ooo! my hair doesn't look right...". Well, it was too late 'cos I'd already taken the shot. She looks fabulous, don't you think:-)

Explore: Jul 7, 2008 #225. Grads Cafe, Cambridge University Centre. You get superb views from the first and third floors of the University Centre, from the Riverside Restaurant and the Grads Cafe respectively. Grads, in particular, is a great place for spending endless hours chatting, drinking tea and discussing everything and nothing:-)

Sometimes reflection says a lot.

They dwell into past .... bring the light from future and make the present go sparkle.

Weird theories.

I know.

A few things are so delightful that you want to share them with your beloveds. Distances make the 'now' thirsty. Which no water can fulfill.

University Centre, Cambridge. The Riverside Restuarant has the best views in town:-)

Matthew laying out the menu cards at the Riverside Restaurant, University Centre.

The restaurant was like two levels of narrow ledge like projections built onto the cliff side on the banks of the Mekong. The kitchen was right across the narrow street along the riverside, so the staff had to make a dash across the street to give, and fetch orders. Sitting in comparative shade and cooled by a pedestal fan, while waiting for my food to arrive, there was only this much to do- photograph the staff and shoot around the restaurant, while being entertained by the frequent guffaws and loud laughing of the ladies from the rather noisy Filipino (or Vietnamese) group at the lower level. (Luang Prabang, Laos/ Lao PDR, April 2014)

A look across the narrow street at the delightful French era buildings along the Mekong riverfront in Luang Prabang. Thanks to the searing slow roasting heat, a solitary woman tourist on a bike is the only person around. The kitchen of this restuaurant is more or less where that lady on the bike is at this moment. My guide's office is a couple of buildings behind me. I once had a terrific 2 hr massage in a traditional Laotian massage place in one of those buildings. (Luang Prabang, Laos/ Lao PDR, April 2014)

Although I was surprisingly feeling repulsed at beer on this trip, a couple of Beerlaos were in order, in that searing heat. For the main dish, I had this local specialty- fish from the Mekong served with white sticky rice. That fish was delicious, cooked in a red tomato base. There were signs around advertising 'grilled Mekong fish', but that would have been time consuming and it was too hot to sit around over half an hour waiting for it. But this was good enough, and 100% delicious! (Luang Prabang, Laos/ Lao PDR, April 2014)

That's my capable guide, who identifies himself as Guide Tru'ong Ton. Quite an enterprising chap with fantastic organizational skills- much needed to manage a group of 50, as I experience the following day- he also had some class, carrying a Samsung phone, and wearing Wrangler jeans and Oakley eyeglasses. He showed me a lot during my brief stay in Saigon and was our group guide the following day as well. (Cu Chi Tunnels, Saigon/ HCM, Vietnam, Nov. 2016)

Being the hottest time of the day, I was the only customer at this level. Set on the cliffside on the banks of the mighty Mekong, there was a lower deck to this restaurant, accessed by steep, ladder like stairs (eew, no thanks!). A rather loud Filipino or probably Vietnamese family was down there- alcohol was flowing freely, and the two ladies there were rather vocal, with one of them exploding into loud guffaws every now and then. The two people you see ahead of me are the restaurant staff. Pleasant people who generally kept to themselves. (Luang Prabang, Laos/ Lao PDR, April 2014)

As I was talking to my guide while photographing the fishing boat which you saw in the previous picture, a put put put of a motor made me look to my left, only to spot this long sand barge. These are really massive boats and an aerial view of a set of them parked side by side appears later on in this album. Sand dredging seems to be big business here, and I saw scores of fully loaded sand barges on my Mekong delta trip the following day. (Cu Chi Tunnels, Saigon/ HCM, Vietnam, Nov. 2016)

Or the Cowgirl:-) A pink cowboy hat! I had to take this shot:-) That's the University Centre in the background.

I was literally crawling up the last few steps when the cheerful face of my fabulous driver-guide perked me up somewhat. He showed me his office what was right across the narrow riverside street and guided me to this restaurant to have my lunch. The food here is quite good, have your lunch, I will join you in a few minutes, he said. So here I am, at the riverside restaurant. Note the intense heat, and the mighty Mekong at the far side. This place will no doubt be a very pleasant place to sip a cold Beerlao and tuck in,in the late evening. (Luang Prabang, Laos/ Lao PDR, April 2014)

The third boat we saw on the Mekong in the past ten minutes. And there is no mistaking it- this is most certainly a fishing boat, looking at all the nets hanging off the rear of the vessel. Our food arrived at this point, so enough boats for now, and now to tuck in. (Cu Chi Tunnels, Saigon/ HCM, Vietnam, Nov. 2016)

The potato pie, a specialty of the Riverside Restaurant of the Preserve Company, made with potatoes, cheese and bacon, is to die for.

This time he's in pretty good focus:-) I like experimenting with DoF and sometimes prefer the subjects to be out of focus or just in the distance. However, this is not to everyone's taste. So here's my reserve shot of a normal portrait of the subject. Even here, you'll note, I've indulged in "DoFness": look at the glasses behind Matthew:-)
