Holy Cow! 30 years without the king. New song...one of my faves from the great Elvis
Today's soundtrack updated: Burning Love - Elvis Presley
You catch a shooting star
You tell me make a wish
Your word is all I know
But if the plane is moving fast
Please secure your mask
Before you put mine on
And now the rain is falling
The truth is bittersweet
A different voice is calling
Where have you gone sweet innocence?

"In the Yoruba religion and is typically associated with water, purity, fertility, love, and sensuality. She is considered one of the most powerful of all orishas, and, like other gods, she possesses human attributes such as vanity, jealousy, and spite."
"I gave my life to this, for whatever it was worth. I had no direction, could not apply meaning to what I was giving. I only knew what I sought, so I gave freely. I prayed till my throat went raw from uttering pleas I no longer had voice for. I lit candle after candle, doused myself in hundred of baths, lit every incense I found just to draw me closer to You. I sacrificed, in ways that went beyond blood, bone or the implements that fed. Years later I am still humbled and brought to my knees, prepared to do it all again if ever You should call for it. No matter how many times I expect to find myself met with Your wrath, or disappointment, Your words bring acceptance, clarity and above all unconditional love."
Maferefun Chango, Maferefun Oya, Maferefun Oshun. With my anniversary as a priestess around the corner, today's post is my expression of giving thanks to them for this past year and the blessings they continue to see fit for me. Sixteen years and I continue to learn, grow and follow the path my Orishas guide me down to the best of my (stubborn) ability.

In the heart of a vast, azure ocean, where sunlight dappled through the cerulean waters, lived a mermaid of unparalleled beauty. Her skin was as translucent as the finest pearl, her hair, a cascade of shimmering white, trailed behind her like a wake of moonlight. But despite her ethereal grace, she was alone.
Her home was a world of pure white coral, a stark contrast to the vibrant hues of the ocean. The soft, white sand beneath her feet was as smooth as silk, and the gentle currents carried the sweet scent of sea lilies. But the tranquility of her surroundings was a stark reminder of her solitude.
Every day, she would swim to the edge of her coral reef, her heart filled with longing. She would gaze out at the endless expanse of the ocean, her eyes searching for a sign of life, a glimpse of another creature. But all she found was the same, unchanging blue.
Year after year, she continued her solitary existence. She would sing mournful songs, her voice echoing through the depths of the sea. She would dance with the currents, her movements graceful and fluid. But no matter what she did, she could not shake the feeling of emptiness that gnawed at her soul.
One day, as she was swimming near the edge of her reef, she felt a tug on her tail. Startled, she turned to see a magnificent merman approaching. His skin was the color of the deepest sapphire, and his hair, a rich, emerald green, flowed freely in the current. His eyes, filled with warmth and kindness, held a promise of companionship.
As they swam together, the mermaid felt a sense of peace she had never known before. The merman told her stories of distant lands, of vibrant coral reefs and shimmering lagoons. He spoke of mermaids with hair as red as fire and tails as green as seaweed. And as he spoke, the mermaid's heart filled with hope.
For the first time in her life, she felt truly alive. She had found someone who loved her for who she was, someone who would swim with her to the ends of the earth. And as they swam off into the sunset, the mermaid knew that her days of solitude were finally over.

Maferefun Iyalorde, this is my depiction of my Oshun path. She's the witch who saved mankind. Crocodiles, vultures, muddy waters and the mysteries there are her domain. Oshun as an Orisha is the sweetness of the world. Beauty, love, fertility, and all of the things that make the human experience worth it. In this road of hers she is the fierceness that protects all of those things and more. ♥

Afro-American religions involve ancestor worship and include a creator deity along with a pantheon of divine spirits such as the Orisha, Loa, Vodun, Nkisi and Alusi, among others. In addition to the religious syncretism of these various African traditions, many also incorporate elements of Folk Catholicism including folk saints and other forms of Folk religion, Native American religion, Spiritism, Spiritualism, Shamanism (sometimes including the use of Entheogens) and European folklore.
Various "doctoring" spiritual traditions also exist such as Obeah and Hoodoo which focus on spiritual health.[1] African religious traditions in the Americas can vary. They can have non-prominent African roots or can be almost wholly African in nature, such as religions like Trinidad Orisha.
