As a thick morning fog begins to finally lift off of Sandpoint, Idaho, a westbound BNSF grain train makes the long trek across the bridge over Lake Pend Oreille on September 27, 2008.

The Eurasian Jay is a common bird that can be heard more easily than seen.
His loud hoarse cries are unpleasant to human ears and he is not stingy with them. He is quite fierce towards humans and prefers to keep his distance.
It is not for nothing that it is called Jay of the oaks because it is fond of acorns which constitute nearly 50% of its diet in summer then that it hides in autumn for the winter.
These birds have an excellent visual memory and are able to find their food even under the snow ...
A big thank you to all for your visits, your comments, and your favorites too, which are always very much appreciated.
I used my second box, the Z7 Mirrorless, which makes no noise when it is triggered because it is a bird very fearful of noise...

Pend Oreille River, near Usk and Cusick, WA, USA. Kayak perspective.
Note of interest: during spring runoff from the Rocky Mountain snowpack, the river level gets to within 5 feet, or less, of the tops of these pilings.
Hmmm, Queen Ann, psychedelic, I'll go with gothic. Rather hard to classify the style of design and architecture of this unique float home. Perhaps a touch of Antoni Gaudi's Sagrada Familia. It wasn't finished when I took this shot. But did hear it was put up for sale later in 2020.
"This 1,800-square-foot floating home is in Bayview Idaho. It features three bedrooms, two bathrooms, an internal boat garage and, best of all, unobstructed views of Lake Pend Oreille." krem.com
Tempting, but think it would be a challenge to keep warm in the winter. But do love the many unique, quirky and whimsical features it offers.
Have a wonderful weekend!

Pend Oreille River, looking west. An unusual atmospheric phenomenon has brought us a bright, sunny morning with a thick blanket of fog on the river. Cold today, too. The temperature was 3 F when this was taken.
A tired former Santa Fe warbonnet leads a westbound BNSF vehicle train at East Algoma, Idaho, on September 30, 2021. I believe this is the very last General Electric locomotive delivered to the Santa Fe… and it’s been a lot of years since it had that new coat of warbonnet paint. The rear of the train is still crossing the long bridge over Lake Pend Oreille in the background.
The Lake Pend Oreille River in the beautiful state of Idaho is a wonderful blue color. All of the pictures taken on this day during a four month overlanding adventure were shot around that area... although I have not yet confirmed the exact location where this picture was taken.

A westbound BNSF manifest freight makes its way across the long bridge over Lake Pend Oreille linking Sandpoint with Algoma, Idaho, on a perfect October 6, 2018. More recently, a new bridge is being constructed by the railroad in front of this one, making this view a bit more difficult (cluttered) now.

Moments before sunset on October 10, 2019, an eastbound BNSF grain empty crosses the long bridge over Lake Pend Oreille at Sandpoint, Idaho.
BNSF’s Sandpoint local follows the shoreline of Lake Pend Oreille as it approaches the long bridge over the lake between East Algoma and Sandpoint, Idaho, on September 30, 2021. Powered by BNSF EMD SD60M No. 1411 and EMD SD40-2 No. 1924, the eastbound local will switch cars to the Pend Oreille Valley Railroad (POVA) at Sandpoint before heading back to Spokane.
Pend Oreille River, looking west near Cusick and Usk, Washington state, USA. Once upon a time, when logs were cut and skidded down to the river to be floated or towed to the rough cut lumber mill in Usk, large rafts of them would be tied to these pilings while awaiting their encounter with a saw blade.
Another mill in Cusick was started by the Diamond Match Company in 1920 that supplied the wood for their matches.
I think the cormorants here are giving me the cold shoulder;-)
An eastbound BNSF grain train squats at East Algoma, Idaho, for three westbounds, with the final one being the Sandpoint local. BNSF SD40-2 leads the local back home to Spokane on September 30, 2021. Construction on a second bridge over Lake Pend Oreille is well underway, and will help alleviate congestion such as this.
