__________

Η σχέση;

Είδα απέναντι από το Ωδείο, τις πολυκατοικίες της ανατολικής πλευράς της Αγοράς να παρατηρούν αγέρωχα, σταματημένα τραίνα You know we got this far, darling, not by luck but by never turning back, μου έστειλαν ενισχυμένο από το Ωδείο ένα ψίθυρο τους με άπταιστη αμερικανική προφορά, ... and have a little trust in us when fear obscures the path συνέχισαν, απευθυνόμενες στην καρδιά μου μάλλον. Φόβος;

Come on, Come on άκουσα μέσα μου ένα ψίθυρο που έστειλα με τη σειρά μου αθώα προς το Ωδείο ..

Show a little inspiration, show a little spark

And show that things that drew me to you and stole my heart

And tell me something I don't know instead of everything I do

And look at me as if I mean something to you

Our hearts are beating while we sleep, but while we're wide awake

You know the world won't stop, and actions speak louder

Listen to your heart, and what your heart might say

Everything we got, we got the hard way

Show a little passion, baby, show a little style

And show the knack for knowing when and the gift for knowing how

And have a little trust in us when fear obscures the path

You know we got this far, darling, not by luck, but by never turning back

Some will call on destiny, but I just call on faith

That the world won't stop, and actions speak louder

Listen to your heart, to what your heart might say

Everything we got, we got the hard way

Caught up in our little lives, there's not a lot left over

I see what's missing in your eyes; you're searching for that field of clover

So show a little inspiration, show a little spark

Show the world a little light when you show it your heart

We've got two lives, one we're given and the other one we make

And the world won't stop, and actions speak louder

Listen to your heart, and your heart might say

Everything we got, we got the hard (everything we got, we got the hard way)

Everything we got, we got the hard way

(Because the world won't stop) hang on, baby...

(The Hard Way, Mary Chapin Carpenter, 1992)

________________

We believe in things that we cannot see

Why shouldn't we? Why shouldn't we?

Hands that heal can set a chained man free

Why shouldn't we? Why shouldn't we?

And we believe in peace within every heart

Why shouldn't we? Why shouldn't we?

Burning brightly, brightly in the dark

Why shouldn't we? Why shouldn't we?

So come on darling, feel your spirits rise

Come on children, open up your eyes

God is all around, Buddha's us at the gate

Allah hears your prayers, it's not too late

And we believe in things that will give us hope

Why shouldn't we? Why shouldn't we?

Let your voice be heard, celebrate your voice

Why shouldn't we? Why shouldn't we?

So come on darling, feel your spirits rise

Come on children, open up your eyes

God is all around, Buddha's at the gate

Allah hears your prayers it's not too late

We believe in things that make us all the same

Why shouldn't we? Why shouldn't we?

Love belongs to all, in deed and aim

Why shouldn't we? Why shouldn't we?

And we believe in things that can't be done

Why shouldn't we? Why shouldn't we?

Lift up your heart, put down your gun

Why shouldn't we? Why shouldn't we?

We believe in things we're told that we can't change

Why shouldn't we?

We had heroes once and we will again

Why shouldn't we?

So come on darling

I saw you this morning

You were looking straight at me

From an ancient photograph

Stuck between letters and some keys

I was lost just for a moment

In the ache of old goodbyes

Sometimes all that we can know is

There's no such thing as no regrets

Baby it's all right

I'm not running

I'm not hiding

I'm not reaching

I'm just resting in the arms of the great wide open

Gonna pull my soul in

And I'm almost home

In quoting lyrics from Mary Chapin Carpenter's "Almost Home", it also occurs to me that it's Music Monday... so that works out well. It's a country song, and an older one at that, but I've always really liked it. (I hate to link to the rather dated video, but I can't find a version on Grooveshark.)

This is another image I found while hunting down negatives for Getty (which, other than four images I need to go hunting for, I am ALL caught up on!). I can't believe that I passed it over the first time.

Image made with my Hasselblad 500 C/M, in the Palouse of Southeastern Washington.

One of my favourite singer songwriters is the Grammy-winning Mary Chapin Carpenter. In 2017 during @celtic_connections she gave an intimate performance at the Hillhead Bookclub in Glasgow.

Was in the mood for country...

Day 128/365

I threw my bench in the car this morning and headed out to the country for a glorious ride on this fine Kansas morning. It's about 20 degrees, but the sky is blue and the frost is so beautiful. I stood on the bench for a few shots and then it occurred to me...Why (walk) stand when you can fly?!!

I'm also listening to Pandora as I prepare my post and Mary Chapin Carpenter just started singing this lovely song! I love synchonicity...

For a moment I thought this guy was holding a 'Distress Flare'. But, I think it was someone having a barbecue :-)

Was it really back on 27 May 2001 that Helen and I saw Mary Chapin Carpenter at The Derngate, Northampton :-) And, either late 1999 or early 2000 we also saw Mary at the Cambridge Corn Exchange. A couple of the best concerts.....EVER :-)

It was only just recently that I found out that John Jennings succumbed to cancer back on October 16, 2015. This was such a shock to me. A tragic loss to music. John produced eight of Mary's albums, played in her band, released five albums of his own and worked with many, many other musicians.

RIP John.

♫ ♪ ♪ ♫ Listen here - "Why Walk When You Can Fly" by Mary Chapin Carpenter

I mentioned the other day one of my favourite bird films "Le Peuple Migateur".

The other one is "Fly Away Home" / "Τα Φτερουγίσματα"

Fly Away Home is a 1996 Canadian/American/New Zealand family coming-of-age goose drama film directed by Carroll Ballard. The film stars Anna Paquin, Jeff Daniels, and Dana Delany. Fly Away Home was released on September 13, 1996, by Columbia Pictures.

Fly Away Home dramatizes the actual experiences of Bill Lishman who, in 1986, started training Canada geese to follow his ultralight aircraft, and succeeded in leading their migration in 1993 through his program "Operation Migration." The film is also based on the experience of Dr. William J.L. Sladen, a British-born zoologist and adventurer, who aided Lishman with the migration.

Listening to: 10.000 miles

Fare thee well

My own true love

Farewell for a while

I'm going away

But I'll be back

Though I go 10,000 miles

10,000 miles

My own true love

10,000 miles or more

The rocks may melt

And the seas may burn

If I should not return

Oh don't you see

That lonesome dove

Sitting on an ivy tree

She's weeping for

Her own true love

As I shall weep for mine

Oh come ye back

My own true love

And stay a while with me

If I had a friend

All on this earth

You've been a friend to me

When I was young I spoke like a child, And I saw with a childs eyes

And an open door was to a girl, Like the stars are to the skies

It's funny how the world lives up to all your expectations

With adventures for the stout of heart, And the lure of the open spaces.

There's two lanes running down this road, And whichever side you are on

Accounts for where you want to go, And what you are running from

Back when darkness overtook me, On a blindman's curve.

CHORUS:

I relied upon the moon, I relied upon the moon

I relied upon the moon and St. Christopher.

Now I've paid my dues 'cause I have owed them, But I've paid a price sometimes

For being such a stubborn woman, In such stubborn times

I have run from the arms of lovers, I have run from the eyes of friends

I have run from the hands of kindness, I have run just because I can.

Now I've grown and I speak like a woman, And I see with a woman's eyes

And an open door is to me now, Like the saddest of goodbyes

Well it's too late for turning back, And I pray for the heart and nerve

.

CHORUS: (repeat chorus)

I relied upon the moon, I relied upon the moon

I relied upon the moon and St. Christopher to be my guide.

Some may be wondering about the title of this set / image , really quite simple ..... all were played a great deal during " recovery " after my recent operation ! + others of course ..... one of the doctors / nurses , suggestions was to try and relax even more , ( never been a problem , one doctor even said " If i was any more relaxed , i'd be comatose ! ) , in the first few weeks especially !

Probably most are fairly well known , possibly some more so in the US , however one of my real favourites since first hearing and seeing her , is an amazing singer Iona Fisher , a real class singer , Simple as that ! ( several pics of her , are in my set here on flickr )

PS Reason for best of's , GH etc is to get more relaxing in one go !

Missing are Nicola Bennedetti , the ' Dixie Chicks and a lot more !!
