Twenty eight million years ago this area in the San Juan Mountains of the southern Rockies had some of the most violent volcanic eruptions known to occur on Earth. The La Garita caldera ejected enough ash (1200 cubic miles or 5000 cubic km) to coat an area the size of Colorado 300 feet (90 m) deep. This and other volcanic eruptions formed the deposits subjected to the erosion that carved the pinnacles, spires, pedestals, and hoodoos of the Wheeler Geologic Area, part of which is shown here.
The Wheeler Geologic Area was named for Captain George Wheeler, an Army surveyor in the latter part of the 1800’s, though it’s not clear he ever visited the area. The rock inhabitants have been called “The City of Gnomes,” “White Shrouded Ghosts,” and “Dante’s Lost Souls.” Locals hoped it would become a major tourist attraction after local mining played out in the late 19th century. The area was designated a National Monument in 1908, but its isolation hindered travel in to see it to a public more accustomed to mechanized transport, and in 1950 it lost its monument status. During the early part of the 21st century spruce beetles killed a substantial number of the conifers in the area, though recruitment of new spruce and aspen is ongoing.
Accessing the area is still challenging (14 mile round trip hike or a 28 mile rt 4wd drive), and it has been incorporated into the La Garita Wilderness, though a rough road was excluded from the wilderness providing access to within a half mile of the rock formations. I had hoped to visit this beautiful spot for a couple of decades, and finally took the time to do it this week (thank you early retirement!). The weather was not wholly cooperative (mostly grey drab skies and a mix of snow and rain), but there were a few windows of good light, some brilliant aspen, and life isn’t all about taking pretty pictures ;-). This shot was taken near first light, shortly before a fog bank rolled in.
From a recent photography workshop. Conditions were not the best. With fading light and some ND filters, I worked on finding simple compositions and I'm pretty happy with how this turned out. Second time trying out Live Time on my EM1 Mkii.

This is definitely my favourite spot on the Isle of Skye, but my word was it windy! Took three evenings to finally get this image, but in the end I was happy. I always wanted a long exposure shot from here.
The sale on my new course, The Art of Photography, is almost over. There's still a little bit of time to get 30% off this comprehensive shooting, planning and processing course. Click on the link here to see the early reviews: www.shutterevolve.com/art-photography-planning-shooting-p...

Fourteenth picture of the series Delta Dreams.
(For this time in vertical, reverse the roles on the boats.
The sun was out and you can be appreciated just to the right of the boat in the background, all those pixels you see are hundreds of flamingos feeding in these lands so good for them.
From my position I listened to them perfectly, but due to fog were almost imperceptible)
My dreamed sunrise in the Delta of the river Ebro -Tarragona-.
The previous day, a local man explained to me a perfect location for enjoy the photograph of this beautiful land.
I consulted the parameters that night and everything was correct to travel there.
The truth is that I was impressed to get to that place, I put on my waders running to get me asap and do not lose the time.
The sun had not yet risen, the water reached my waist, good temperature, soft wind, a lot of clouds and fog surrounding the horizon, made the conditions were the best.
Many photos I've seen of this place is that in photoshop blur the horizon line with the clone tool, but there was fog and with long exposure, completely erased.
It seemed that I was doing a photo shoot in the same heaven.
I think for many more times to return to this place, I can never find anything so perfect.
This is the photo shoot I most enjoyed in recent years, have a set of at least seven impressive images.
On the technical side, say that I only used a neutral gradient three steps filter.
I hope you like it. Have a nice Friday. :)

Woolomai surf beach, Phillip Island. I had to lighten this up a fair bit as the original was way too dark. Think I had the ISO too low. I haven't worked out the 5D yet as far as long exposures go. Tricky.
Bombo quarry is now a heritage site, near Kiama in New South Wales, Australia. The rock is latite, a type of basalt.
Revisited this location after 8 years: back then I used a 2nd hand Canon 350D, no nd filter, cheap tripod, and not a lot of knowledge. I was very proud of the result, but looking back and comparing the results, I'm more proud about the difference!

Beauty is unbearable, drives us to despair, offering us for a minute the glimpse of an eternity that we should like to stretch out over the whole of time. Albert Camus
La beauté est insupportable, nous pousse au désespoir, en nous offrant une minute l'aperçu d'une éternité que nous aimerions voir s'étendre sur la totalité du temps.
Albert Camus

I saw something similar in the Photography Tricks Group on Facebook by Thomas Balagula (www.facebook.com/groups/416814689002581/user/100008883311...) and I decided to have a go. You trace the outlines of the objects using a light (small torch or flashlight on a phone) but keep the light always pointing at the camera which is in bulb mode.
