The longest suspension bridge in Norway. Total length 1257 m, longest span 623 m, sailing height 43 m.

The bridge connects Bergsøya to the mainland. Bergsøya is a small island with a few hundred people, but has three impressive connections:

1) Gjemnessundbrua, the longest suspension bridge in Norway.

2) A 10 km long tunnel, once the longest undersea road tunnel in the world.

3) A floating bridge, which was the longest in the world when built.

Why does this island deserve such large constructions? The tunnel connects the town Kristiansund (20-25.000) to the mainland, and the two bridges are parts of the shortest road between Trondheim (150.000) and the three towns Kristiansund, Molde (25.000) and Ålesund (40.000) in a district (Møre og Romsdal) with 250.000 inhabitants.

No editing of any kind!

One of the most beautiful sunsets I have ever seen. That day, the colors were simply exceptional.

We were travelling from Sykkylven to Trondheim. Almost half way, shortly after crossing Straumsundbrua, connecting Aspøya to the mainland, the sunset reached a climax and we had to stop to capture the wonderful and magic display of colors.

The Straumsundbrua bridge is half way between Gjemnessund bridge and the ferry harbor at Kanestraumen. It is part of the road system "Krifast", connecting Kristiansund to the mainland and shortening the part of E39 that is the main road between Molde and Trondheim.

There is absolutely no processing here, not even a crop.

This photo is a cooperation between me and my son. He looked throught the finder, composed the photo and pushed the button. I was the owner of the camera, chose the best shot, decided not to process it and told my son that the photo was good. And, yes, I stopped the car and told him to open the car window and shoot.

It was very cold outside, -15 C, so we stayed in the car.

Explore #396 August 5 2009!!

I was sitting in a moving car when I shot this (no, I wasn't driving!) and it was pretty dark, so the shot is a bit blury and grainy. But maybe that's why I kind of liked it... =)

This song and this version of it is one of my favourites ever. Enjoy: www.youtube.com/watch?v=PYPSZiE0OAs

1257 m long, 623 between the two man towers.

Clearance below: 43 m

Height: 108 m

Opened 1992 as a part of the Krifast project, connecting the town Kristiansund to the mainland.

The longest suspension bridge in Norway, with the second longest bridge span.

(Hardangerbrua will take both records when it's finished in August 2013)

Bergsøysund Bridge (Norwegian: Bergsøysundbrua) is a pontoon bridge that crosses the Bergsøysundet strait between the islands of Aspøya (in Tingvoll) and Bergsøya (in Gjemnes) in Møre og Romsdal county, Norway. The bridge is 931 metres long and the maximum clearance to the sea is 6 metres. The bridge has 13 spans.

Bergsøysund Bridge was opened in 1992, and it is part of the Krifast road system, the town of Kristiansund's road connection to the mainland. The bridge is frequently visited by fishermen seeking easy access to the riches of the strait.

I shot this from the bus, going home from Kristiansund to Ålesund the weekend before Christmas. The bridge is part of the Kristiansund Mainland Connection, or in short; Krifast.

Thanks a lot to Sigrunn for this nice view of the Krifast bridge.
