These guys are easy to find along farm roads with wooden fences. They like to stand on top of the fence pole and make their calls. They are either declaring their territory or looking for love. Either way, they are a pretty sight and sound.

I'm off chasing snow today, so I'm giving my friend the beach a rest today and heading for the hills. I also need to shed a few pounds after the Christmas celebrations, so the exercise will do me good. Just friends by Amy Winehouse is fine for this, but I suppose we're best friends really who've been seeing each other for over 38 years.
Daniel (www.flickr.com/photos/165181884@N05) and I met online through photography just before lockdown in March 2020. We met up to talk about our shared passion but found that we ‘clicked’. Due to lockdown we’ve mostly been just friends, but we became very close and had shoots together and spoke a lot on video. We’ve been a wonderful support for each other throughout and he was a godsend when my Mum died just over a year ago. I couldn’t have coped without his support and encouragement. Now we are best friends and more. I need nothing more. Just shows life can be happy if you look for the right signs. 😍❤️

Green Herons have such interesting behavior. They hunt fish like hawks, can stretch their neck out a mile, and make such interesting calls. I once crawled under some brush, believing I heard a bobcat growling, when it was a green heron that seemed to me upset about something. I caught this one about to pounce on an unlucky minnow, which he successfully caught. They seem to rarely miss their target.

The fun of shooting (I should really say "attempting to shoot") Tree Swallows is that they are tiny fast birds that aren't bothered by your presence. In fact, they enjoy darting around and frustrating your attempt to photograph them. That said, they provide lots of opportunities and if you take enough shots, especially with the modern cameras that focus so quickly, it is possible. Even better, when you get them on the computer at home, and crop down, which is for me a necessity on birds this small, you sometimes find some prizes. Here's one in the act of catching a fly which you can see if you squint hard enough.
