The Wildey Theatre in Edwardsville is a local landmark. It was built in 1909. From 1984 until the early 2000s, it was closed. The building has since been renovated and in normal years hosts concerts and other events. It's nice to see the lights blazing on Main street on a damp evening.

I went out for a cold, winter walk at a local watershed. I didn't think I'd find very much to photograph. They've just done a controlled burn and the plants are dormant. Was I surprised at how much texture I found.
An aerial view of the Chicago River, Lake Michigan and the harbour in Chicago, Illinois. Shot through a window on the 26th floor of the Hyatt Regency west tower on East Wacker Drive.

There's a magic time of day under Clark Bridge in Alton, Illinois. The sun lights up the otherwise dull concrete. I used a slow shutter speed to smooth the water and emphasize the reflection, elongating the lines.
The photo looking down on the tracks of the Chicago El provides a new perspective. Mirroring adds a new arch shape to the image. The trains and tracks are still clear to the viewer, but the overall gestalt changes. 23mm 1/100@f8.0, ISO400
My first shot of the day on February 01,1992. Eastbound at Williamsfield, Illinois.
Shot with a Canon F-1 and 200mm lens on Kodachrome 25.
Been busy in life lately but my wife and I celebrated her birthday gift (this concert) and Valentines Day date together. What an amazing place, inside and out.I didn’t have the nerve to ask her to humor me taking night images in Waukegan, except for this image on our way in. Concert was amazing and I’ll be back for some serious night shooting!
We can't always get the right combination. We take what we get. Here we see Santa Fe 5383 eastward at Verona, Illinois.
Shot with a canon F-1 on Kodachrome 25. June 1987.

A bit of long exposure stacking - Two water sources moving at drastically different speeds. The waterfall (Kinkaid Spillway, Illinois) is a 1/5th of a second exposure and the water is 10 seconds.

This is the first time I've spotted IRM's newest acquisition in light good enough for some classic roster shots.
Ok, I had this stopped down pretty far....way far. Even with the shutter open for 30 seconds the image is still underexposed making it appear to be a moonlight shot. But the supper slow shutter caused even the pool to look silky smooth. This is the Matthiessen Lake waterfalls at Matthiessen State park in north central Illinois. Shot this morning using the built in variable ND filter in the Fotodiox Pro ND Throttle EF-E adaptor. Sony a6000 with Canon EF 24-105mm L USM.

The Lawn at Cantigny Park, Wheaton, Illinois
Shot with a 100mm macro. I just barely squeezed both benches in the frame as the rain was falling hard and I didn't have the wherewithal to change a lens as I had to juggle the camera, lens, lens caps, lens hoods, camera bag as well as an umbrella, and my back was against some photographic boundary...
I think this is where a red carpet would be appropriate for a local resident to welcome Mr. Z :)

Close-up of the Christmas tree in downtown Libertyville, Illinois, shot with a Sony a7 and our Fotodiox P-series star filter.
Using a star filter is a great way to get that retro 70s and 80s commercial photography and video look, especially around the holidays when there are decorative lights to film and photograph just about everywhere. Check out our YouTube channel to learn more.

Metra 171 EMD F40PH-2 diesel locomotive
Norwood Park
As far as I can tell, this is the FIRST time this locomotive has appeared on Flickr.
In the background is a passing UP frieght on its way to Janesville, WI.
Dark wooded growth slowly covers the old ruins of a steel mill on Sylvan Island, Moline, Illinois. Shot with Ferrania P30 and Canon IVsb rangefinder camera
A super crop of Metra 172 as it leaves Crystal Lake with an inbound train. I was trying for a generic roster shot here, but was "squeezed" by a light pole on the left and a signal on the right--both of which have beeen cropped out, leaving this unit to literally fill the frame, with only a couple of pixels to spare.
It's hard to get a good roster shot of a diesel that's moving.

this is the colored version of a previous black and white image i posted of this barn at the Volo Bog State and Nature Area in Volo, Illinois...shot this image last summer and used a circular polarizer to enhance the saturation of the blues and greens which also made the really white puffy clouds pop out against the blue skies...it's been kind of cloudy and wet the last few days so i decided to post this to brighten not just my day but everyone else's as well...enjoy your weekend folks....pls. Fox River, St. Charles, Illinois. Shot this from the east side of the river. This small boat was docked at the Hotel Baker and after sunset and the lights came on, I got to snappin'.
