Hundred Avalokitesvaras (Hyakutai Kan'non 百体観音) are located in the Tsugaike settlement at an altitude of 700 m. These stone statues and stelae were donated by local well wishers for safety, health, prosperity etc. They were relocated to this place from their original roadside locations to widen old roads suitable for car traffic in the 19th century.

Avalokitesbara is a Bodhisattva of mercy, which is like a saint of Christianity. He became popular in China and translated to 観音 (Guan'yin). It was pronounced Kwanon and modified later to Kan'non in Japan.

There was a Japanese manufacturer who gave the name of Buddhist deity to its products. The company later considered to modify the brand name to sound more familiar to their international customers while keeping the existing Japanese customers. Kwanon was changed to Canon.

This MM theme went round and round (no pun intended) in my head all day. After an exhausting day and an accidental after-dinner nap on the sofa 😱, I decided on the simplest thing I could get my hands on. A thimble, which lights nicely and creates its own bokeh. I'm still not sure it's the best thing I could've come up with in the (rather limited) time I've had over the past week, but here it is anyway.

Behold this magnificent 400-year-old staircase that stands as a testament to the enduring beauty of history. This enchanting path, located in the heart of Franconian Switzerland, leads you from the downtown area to the remains of the once mighty Castle Waischenfeld. Each step carries the echoes of countless footsteps that have traversed this route over the centuries. As you ascend, immerse yourself in the charm of the well-worn stones and the heritage they represent. Let the allure of this ancient staircase transport you back in time as you embark on a journey of exploration and discovery.

Philippines , near the hundred islands

One of our main trips in the Philippines was to the hundred islands.

It is a national park and a major tourist spot.

The islands, totaling 124 at low tide and 123 at high tide, are scattered in Lingayen Gulf. Only three of them have been developed for tourism: Governor Island, Quezon Island, and Children's Island.

The islands are believed to be about two million years old

The location is in Pangasinan in Luzon and the nearest city is Alaminos.

We have had a great time here, a beautiful view, good food and friendly people.

The beautiful small beaches, the tropical views, the many fish will always be remembered as one of the highlights in our life.

We choose Philippines.

Time flies by, it's already late spring and I'm still posting the autumn photos. I'm not even mad. I've discolored this one a little bit, it seem like a hundred years from then. Time flies by, not very fast, when you can't do anything and you're just hybernating to get through the time to another realm...

perhaps this is one of my favorite situations of my work, when a hundred years of life in one click of the camera shutter.

The story develops by itself, it remains only to silently smoke outside the edge of the frame ..

"..The Old Rock has always been here. But there were many worries, and I looked through it.. When we are young we all run.. Now my children and grandchildren drive cattle themselves. Having grown old, I look at these stones all the days, sitting in front of the yurt.."

They are bound, the old rock, and the old woman. Bound in this desert for a century. Soon the woman will leave, and the eagles nesting on this rock will peck at her body in the desert among these stones, as her mother and father too..

In the corral behind the yurt, a small white kid is closed.. he always wants to run... And a little boy, great-grandson, constantly runs away from the old woman to him too,

He is dressed in the clothes of a small girl - Spirits should not know for the time being..

- he is the heir of this old yurt, near the Old Rock

"Two hundred miles of engineering impossibilities" were the very words used by CPR's general manager William C Van Horne in the early 1880s to describe what lie ahead for the construction crews building their part of the main along the rugged shores of Lake Superior. It would be logical to think that a route along the lake shore would be void of gradient, but this is far from the truth. In numerous locations the ruggedness of the shoreline dictated the track take an inland course. This resulted in a series of grades where the line climbed away from Lake Superior. The steepest of these grades is Neys Hill on the Heron Bay Sub where the average grade is 1.04 percent eastbound and 0.9 for westbounds. Grades reaching 1 percent and curves of up to six degrees occur in numerous locations throughout the length of the route.

Here train 406 has just come off the large bridge over the Little Pic River and is just starting up Neys Hill. You can see the track in the distance clinging to the side of the hard rock ridge above the river as it climbs toward Middleton. The rear cars were disappearing behind the ridge as the lead unit came around the far curve. I imagine today's humongous trains fit this whole scene!

It was easy to write this caption as I stole the info from an article I wrote on the line that appeared in the June 1999 CTC Board magazine. Gosh that seems so long ago....

Must be hundreds of tiny flowers that form this cushion of pink flowers on the Schneehüenderstock. It took me a while to find out what they were, but my flower books in combination with photos from Flickr itself gave me the answer: Silene acaulis! They belong to the same family as carnations, but are adapted to growing at great heights.

Complete your look and style with this coordinated 1 Hundred. Dark Heart top and high waist mini skirt set. It makes for a great alternative to wearing the usual crop with shorts or cut jeans.

Taking inspiration from various free spirit influences, this dark heart set is so much fun to style into a fashion statement. It is exuberant, sexy, colorful, flamboyant and happy.

Hundreds and Thousands on a coin for Macro Mondays.

I am capable of creating hundreds of such landscapes, which leads me to ponder the evolving significance of photographing landscapes. With the advent of AI-generated landscapes, the straightforwardness and novelty of capturing natural scenes through traditional photography begin to fade. In the past, photography was regarded as a means to preserve and immortalize the beauty of landscapes. It allowed us to capture a moment in time, freezing the essence of a place forever. However, as AI advances and creates astonishingly realistic landscapes, the need for photography as a mere replication of reality becomes less apparent. AI can generate an endless array of landscapes, each unique and crafted with meticulous detail. These digitally created scenes possess a remarkable realism that rivals traditional photography. They offer a seemingly infinite palette of possibilities, where one can explore fantastical realms, reimagine familiar landscapes, or even create entirely new environments. With AI-generated landscapes at our disposal, we are no longer confined to capturing what already exists. We can now delve into the realm of imagination and bring to life scenes that transcend the boundaries of reality. This shift challenges us to redefine the purpose of landscape photography. Instead of aiming to capture the objective reality of a place, photography can become a tool for personal expression and storytelling. It can be a means to convey emotions, evoke memories, or communicate a unique perspective on the world. Photographers can now focus on capturing the fleeting moments, the play of light and shadow, or the human elements that interact with the landscapes. Furthermore, photography can serve as a source of inspiration for AI algorithms. By capturing real landscapes through the lens, photographers can contribute to the training data that informs the creation of AI-generated landscapes. It becomes a symbiotic relationship between human creativity and technological advancement, where each influences and enhances the other. In this evolving landscape of artistic creation, the role of photography is transformed. It is no longer solely about replication, but about interpretation, personal vision, and pushing the boundaries of visual storytelling. While AI-generated landscapes offer incredible possibilities, they cannot replace the human eye and the unique perspective that each photographer brings to their craft. Ultimately, the significance of photographing landscapes lies in the power to capture the intangible essence of a place, to tell stories, and to evoke emotions. It is a realm where artistry, imagination, and technology intersect, forging new paths for creative expression.

The area that was to become West Palm Beach was settled in the late 1870s and 1880s by a few hundred settlers who called the vicinity "Lake Worth Country." These settlers were a diverse community from different parts of the United States and the world. They included founding families such at the Potters and the Lainharts, who would go on to become leading members of the business community in the fledgling city. The first white settlers in Palm Beach County lived around Lake Worth, then an enclosed freshwater lake, named for Colonel William Jenkins Worth, who had fought in the Second Seminole War in Florida in 1842. Most settlers engaged in the growing of tropical fruits and vegetables for shipment the north via Lake Worth and the Indian River. By 1890, the U.S. Census counted over 200 people settled along Lake Worth in the vicinity of what would become West Palm Beach. The area at this time also boasted a hotel, the "Cocoanut House", a church, and a post office. The city was platted by Henry Flagler as a community to house the servants working in the two grand hotels on the neighboring island of Palm Beach, across Lake Worth in 1893, coinciding with the arrival of the Florida East Coast railroad. Flagler paid two area settlers, Captain Porter and Louie Hillhouse, a combined sum of $45,000 for the original town site, stretching from Clear Lake to Lake Worth.

On November 5, 1894, 78 people met at the "Calaboose" (the first jail and police station located at Clematis St. and Poinsettia, now Dixie Hwy.) and passed the motion to incorporate the Town of West Palm Beach in what was then Dade County (now Miami-Dade County). This made West Palm Beach the first incorporated municipality in Dade County and in South Florida. The town council quickly addressed the building codes and the tents and shanties were replaced by brick, brick veneer, and stone buildings. The city grew steadily during the 1890s and the first two decades of the 20th century, most residents were engaged in the tourist industry and related services or winter vegetable market and tropical fruit trade. In 1909, Palm Beach County was formed by the Florida State Legislature and West Palm Beach became the county seat. In 1916, a new neo-classical courthouse was opened, which has been painstakingly restored back to its original condition, and is now used as the local history museum.

The city grew rapidly in the 1920s as part of the Florida land boom. The population of West Palm Beach quadrupled from 1920 to 1927, and all kinds of businesses and public services grew along with it. Many of the city's landmark structures and preserved neighborhoods were constructed during this period. Originally, Flagler intended for his Florida East Coast Railway to have its terminus in West Palm, but after the area experienced a deep freeze, he chose to extend the railroad to Miami instead.

The land boom was already faltering when city was devastated by the 1928 Okeechobee hurricane. The Depression years of the 1930s were a quiet time for the area, which saw slight population growth and property values lower than during the 1920s. The city only recovered with the onset of World War II, which saw the construction of Palm Beach Air Force Base, which brought thousands of military personnel to the city. The base was vital to the allied war effort, as it provided an excellent training facility and had unparalleled access to North Africa for a North American city. Also during World War II, German U-Boats sank dozens of merchant ships and oil tankers just off the coast of West Palm Beach. Nearby Palm Beach was under black out conditions to minimize night visibility to German U-boats.

The 1950s saw another boom in population, partly due to the return of many soldiers and airmen who had served in the vicinity during the war. Also, the advent of air conditioning encouraged growth, as year-round living in a tropical climate became more acceptable to northerners. West Palm Beach became the one of the nation's fastest growing metropolitan areas during the 1950s; the city's borders spread west of Military Trail and south to Lake Clarke Shores. However, many of the city's residents still lived within a narrow six-block wide strip from the south to north end. The neighborhoods were strictly segregated between White and African-American populations, a legacy that the city still struggles with today. The primary shopping district remained downtown, centered around Clematis Street.

In the 1960s, Palm Beach County's first enclosed shopping mall, the Palm Beach Mall, and an indoor arena were completed. These projects led to a brief revival for the city, but in the 1970s and 1980s crime continued to be a serious issue and suburban sprawl continued to drain resources and business away from the old downtown area. By the early 1990s there were very high vacancy rates downtown, and serious levels of urban blight.

Since the 1990s, developments such as CityPlace and the preservation and renovation of 1920s architecture in the nightlife hub of Clematis Street have seen a downtown resurgence in the entertainment and shopping district. The city has also placed emphasis on neighborhood development and revitalization, in historic districts such as Northwood, Flamingo Park, and El Cid. Some neighborhoods still struggle with blight and crime, as well as lowered property values caused by the Great Recession, which hit the region particularly hard. Since the recovery, multiple new developments have been completed. The Palm Beach Mall, located at the Interstate 95/Palm Beach Lakes Boulevard interchange became abandoned as downtown revitalized - the very mall that initiated the original abandonment of the downtown. The mall was then redeveloped into the Palm Beach Fashion Outlets in February 2014. A station for All Aboard Florida, a high-speed passenger rail service serving Miami, Fort Lauderdale, West Palm Beach, and Orlando, is under construction as of July 2015.

My Fence Friday set: Here

iPhone shots: Here

Winter through the lens Here

A hundred eager watching eyes

That arrived from the skies

Now do rest in the tree

Above the ground, so wild and free

A hundred wings, that once did fly

The invisible roads, up in the sky

Travelling across the fields and hills

Through Summer heat and Winter chills

A hundred mouths, they do cry

A operatic aria, that rises high

A call to arms, a rallying call

A chant repeated by one and all

As they soar, wings spread wide

Across the beautiful countryside

Following its paths, that do lead

Eating its treasures, on which they feed
