handbound blank journals with encaustic covers

I combined two lith images into this encaustic piece during a recent workshop with Jill Burkholder. Thanks, Jill for a fantastic time learning a new process. FYI- encaustic involves applying wax to images.

Charcoal drawing on paper mounted to panel, then coated with beeswax/ microcrystalline/paraffin mixture, then blue wax glaze. Then scribed and scratched the surface and rubbed black oil paint into the incised lines.

In Greek mythology, the Moirai—often known in English as the Fates—were the white-robed incarnations of destiny. Their number became fixed at three: Clotho (spinner), Lachesis (allotter) and Atropos (unturnable). They controlled the metaphorical thread of life of every mortal from birth to death.

I made 2 encaustic paintings from the same diagram. I have a wonderful, easy, safe way to do encaustic. Should have taken a photo of the setup to show you, but maybe next time.
