Back in the day when I could hobble outside in the early mornings before I got so stove up.

Taken this early morning, concretely at 5:54 am before leaving for work. This is the image of the Waning Crescent Moon with 3 percent of illumination and Earthshine beside a construction crane with red light beams in our neighborhood.

Single exposure picture increasing the ISO to 400.

I hope you enjoy the picture.

Wishing you a peaceful and relaxing Wednesday!

Click to view large...my favorite shot of the conjunction so far. Earthshine, lens flare, a scattering of stars and clouds, and some nice grain. (Remember film days?)

The Moon, 2.5% illumintated setting with Venus and Mebusta in the northern New Mexico sunset sky.

Conjunction of the Moon and Venus

This scene occurred after the lunar occultation of Venus on March 23rd 2023. As Venus and the Moon parted ways and set over the island of Phuket, from a unique vantage point, the moon and Venus appear to be visiting the famous giant statue of Lord Buddha situated at the southern region of the island. The approximately 80% illuminated gibbous phase of Venus is discernible and the moon and the earthshine was partially shrouded by some fog over the mountains, a beautiful, inspiring and surreal moment.

3.6% illuminated Moon

Managed an image of tonight’s 9% waxing crescent Moon with a touch of earthshine through the incoming cloud

19 Enero 2018 Luna e Iota Aquarii

This is the moon this evening. I noted that the shadow wasn't fully black, so I thought it to be a good night to capture it.

Glittering sea of Broome Harbour as the Solar System works some of its evening magic.

A conjunction of the young, 2.4% illuminated, Moon with Venus and Mercury.

With Mercury's greatest elongation occurring just a few days back (15Mar18), it was easily spotted by the unaided eye. As the evening star, Venus will reach its furthest distance from the sun on 17Aug18.

The crescent moon was glowing with earthshine as dusk settled over the river Tawe in Swansea. The balance between brightness in the sky and the artificial lights seemed just right.

The phenomenon of seeing the darkened part of the moon is called earthshine.

This was a part of the beautiful pine forest that surrounded our house, until it was cleared to build, thus "long gone."

A poignant, for me, memory post. I miss that vista, and now we're moving away too so we will also be long gone.

Goodbye, old home.

Earthshine is best seen a few days before and after a New Moon, right after sunset or before sunrise. Scientists studying global warming found that earthshine is more intense in April and May.

Earthshine (unlight part by the Sun) is caused by the reflection of light earth on the lunar surface.

Perfect alignment between a crescent Moon (with some earthshine) and top of the Eiffel Tower! A beautiful sight.

slightly different edit compared to previous picture. Which one do you prefer?

We camped at Tyler State Park this past weekend. I took this picture of the lake under a crescent moon and Venus just before they set below the trees. The darker side of the moon, illuminated by Earthshine was clearly visible.

Earlier while we were out canoeing on the lake, we spotted a bat flying around in broad daylight. It was swooping down to scoop up insects off the lake. I did not bring my camera out on the canoe so unfortunately no pictures of it! But happy to have had the chance to see it in action.
