Not only is Cars Land incredibly photogenic from the exterior, but it serves arguably the best counter service food at Disney California Adventure, has great interior design, cool costumes, and its seating offers an AWESOME view of Ornament Valley!

Yesterday on DisneyTouristBlog, I posted a page of 86 photos from Cars Land. I saved most of the best ones for photos of the day, but I think there's some good stuff there. Please check it out!

This is one of my favorite Aladdins in the entire cast. Which is what made it all the more awesome/special when he recognized and stopped me as I was walking through Hollywood Pictures Backlot and said Hi. I'm so appreciative to him for making an ordinary trip to the Disneyland Resort so memorable, and I couldn't possibly thank him enough for making my 99th viewing of Aladdin A Musical Spectacular so awesome.

Taken on 3/27/2011 during the 12:40 performance.

I'm new to photography, so constructive criticism is always appreciated :)

As cheesy as it was, I do kinda miss the old entrance to Disney California Adventure.

I've been going through old folders of photos and found a bunch from this night that I can now look at with a much greater ability to process correctly. I looked at the original ones I did and was horrified. I really had no concept of Color Temperature.

The oh so present Cars Land photo. It was just a pretty day and I was excited to be in Cars Land, as I always am, so I couldn't resist.

Another week goes by with no idea of when Disneyland will once again delight children of all ages.

Beautiful clouds and light came together last night at sunset.

Besides the great sunset going on, I met and got to hang out with four guys who's work I have been following for a while. I have learned from listening to them on podcasts and looking at the shots they take. Being able to spend time with them last night made the night much better and seeing how they work was fun. Best of all they were all open and friendly guys.

It was great meeting Bill McIntosh (WJMcIntosh), Mike Greening (Ring of Fire Hot Sauce 1), Gregg L Cooper and Ryan Pastorino (Silver1SWA).

Shooting tonight also provided a rare opportunity to get some sunset with no World of Color apparatus in the way!

I spent a good chunk of my night in Cars Land taking in the wonder that is Radiator Springs Racers.

This was shot after the first showing of World of Color, while we waited for the second showing on a very wet night. The park was so empty that I had to wait and wait for this shot because no one was riding the Zephyr. Finally, I called Sarah (who was off taking Instagram photos or something) and sent her up to ride it. They ended up running the attraction just for her. Later, no one was within 20 feet of me to the left and right as I shot World of Color from the front row.

Do Southern Californians melt when it rains?!

The lights from Mad T Party shine above the park at night.

The best time to shoot them? About every 5 minutes they stop for a rest so you can get a good exposure.

Nice of Disney to do that for us!

Something I've had to learn as I continue to hone my photography skills is that there are things out of your control. You can wait around a hour for Cars Land to empty, but that "O" on the sign will go out just as you're about to snap the shutter.

Radiator Springs Racers

Cars Land, Disney California Adventure

For the first time since the Cars Land Annual Passholder previews, (June 10th for me) I was able to ride Radiator Springs Racers. Even though it has been over a month since I rode this amazing new attraction, I still consider myself very lucky as it was the fifth time I have been able to ride.

On my third ride, during that preview day, I captured my first attempt at this photo and I have been anxious to try it again. Last time I was able to capture the sense of motion, but the vehicle wasn't very sharp. This time, I opened my aperture up a bit more and changed my focus mode to "center weighted" and the focus came out much smoother on the subject, and the guests in the other car even looked at me as I snapped away. I only wish I knew who they were so I can give them a copy.

Disney California Adventure has come a long way since its remodel and improvements began. With a few weeks under its belt, DCA 2.0 is only getting better.

Just a beautiful day at Disney California.

One of my favorite places to enjoy some forest scenery and a quiet relaxing spot to escape the crowds is the walkway behind Grizzly River Rapids. It really doesn't feel like you are in a theme park.

The new holiday World of Color has some great new music, especially the early sequence.

It is also a pretty obvious promotion for the new "Frozen" movie.

Despite that, the show is fun and the movie does look good... so WOC did it's job.

If you can get to it, the show's worth seeing.

Radiator Springs in DCA.

I love the bridge and color for the waterfall at night.

A late afternoon stroll along Paradise Pier (now Pixar Pier) is always a lovely view.

If only the price of gas in California would match the rest of the country...

Unlike other Disney shows, World of Color at Disney California Adventure requires some planning and advanced shenanigans in order to get a decent viewing area. Advanced shenanigans means being at the front gate of the park exactly when it opens and join the mad rush to the Fast Pass lines in order to get a pass that allows you into a specific (out of your control) viewing area for the show. If you want to be together with your group, you had better all be there at the fast pass line at the same time. You cannot use a ticket or annual pass belonging to someone else (in order to acquire a pass for them) unless they are already inside the park (because the ticket is "activated" by passing through the front gate bar code scanners) .

Your viewing area is based upon who gets there first, so your friends that decided to sleep in probably won't be in the same area, and maybe not even the same show...If you are a hotel guest, you may go into the park 1 hour earlier than regular guests, which is a big advantage to obtaining passes. This view is from the "Orange" area handicapped section which is a little ways back from the water's edge, meaning we were dry, but missed some of the little water displays close to the surface. Spectacular show, and well worth the hassle!

This is an HDR image from 3 handheld exposures, Photomatix 4, Nik and Topaz filters. With the camera set to AUTO ISO, grabbing a handheld bracket for an HDR image in low light is entirely possible, although there may be excess noise to deal with. By utilizing the original 3 bracketed images as layers in photoshop, it is possible to mask in these layers to bring detail into blown highlights, dark shadows, and adjust areas of the image for exposures, detail, or saturation or any number of reasons, including elimination of noise caused by merging the images in the HDR process. The final image was adjusted in Photoshop to eliminate some lens distortion, and then cropped accordingly.

Here is the same shot taken 40 minutes later:

Just another night at the parks!

Originally I used f1.8 as I was shooting this, but the blur in the background wasn't as distinctive as showing Mickey's distinctive visage... so resetting the aperture to f8 gave some blurred focus to the background.

I had some issues with the lens protector causing some odd streaking, but I liked this shot enough to post it anyways. I could retake the shot with it cleaned, but the resting moms was a moment in time.

I always find myself drawn to this area of DCA because it is so calm and relaxing.

A great day for run down the rapids!

Neon plus bright lights.... ahhh.

Holidays in Cars Land!

This will probably be the most popular shot you'll see of Flo's V8 Cafe. Shooting Cars Land is so overwhelming at first, that most photographers are shooting the obvious. I have some other angles planned, so variety is on it's way!

The neon is mesmerizing, isn't it?

I had the pleasure of spending a wonderful day in Cars Land with good friends and good food.

On this particular outing I decided to use my zoom lens and go around getting some close up details that I have overlooked in my previous photo outings.

Ramone's is your place to pick up shirts, hats and even a Cars Land leather racing jacket! Many of the shop's interior design elements were hand painted by Chip Foose, a renowned customized car and paint designer from here in Southern California.

Last night was one of the special Mickey's Halloween Party nights.

Since I wasn't going to that, it's always nice to look for different places to see the fireworks.

This time I landed in DCA behind the mill. Not a bad spot and certainly a different point of view.
