The warmest harbour in Canada due to its shallow depth. All the water you see disappears at low tide.

I spotted this young man exploring the beach having a great time. A beachcomber of the future perhaps.😊

In 1818 Alexandre Henri Gabriel de Cassini (1781-1832), a French botanist hailing from a family of astronomers and cartographers, decided that the name by which our plant went also in Linnaeus - Othonna pectinata - was too confusing. Another plant was already called Othonna. So he devised the fitting new name 'Euryops' (= Wide-eyed) retaining the specific 'pectinatus'. Apparently that last word refers to the 'comblike' foliage (in learned English: pectinate).

It's a plant from southern Africa and was being grown in England by 1731 (The Botanical Magazine 1795: 306). In our Hortus it's in the South Africa glass house.

Wild rose in the forest,

Wild rose on the moor,

Dawn mist on the mountain,

Combers crashing on the shore.

A pleasant walk of less than 1 km winds its way from the trail head through thick coastal rain forest down to the beach. Going back up, the trail is much steeper than you remembered and seems much farther than 1 km. So this and one other bench make for a most welcome resting spot.

Old Windmill Stump at Quintin Bay in Comber County Down Northern Ireland. Now I say this is a Windmill Stump but this is only my opinion and I stand to be corrected by anybody who knows....there are loads of these scattered about County Down usually in the middle of nowhere on a hill. I think they add to the scenery...

Another shot from a favourite spot on the Ballydrain Road just outside Comber :)
