The Netherlands - Heveskes
The village Heveskes arose before the Common Era on a pair of mounds (wierden/terpen). In the sixties of the 20th century plans were made to break up the village in favour of a new industrial area. From that time the population decreased from more than 200 to 20. The intended settling of Aldel aluminium caused the final demolition of Heveskes. Heveskes church is about the only remainder. Only the lower part of the tower is of medieval (13th century) origin. After the church was burnt down during the Eighty Years' War it was rebuilt on a smaller scale. Recently, local and regional authorities tried to relocate the church several times, but that was blocked by the owner of the chuch, the Oude Groninger Kerken Foundation. So, to this day the church endures in a weird landscape. In the background Chemical Park Delftzijl, with (a.o.) Evonik Peroxide Netherlands BV, is visible, as well as a small part of the river Eems estuary and Germany (on the opposite side). Image made with kite and camera (attached to the kite's line). © Tom Kisjes

Recently the company got into financial trouble (again), this time because of the sharply risen gas price. Image made with kite and camera (attached to the kite's line). © Tom Kisjes

Delesto BV
Delesto BV, a 50%-50% joint venture, is a modern natural gas powered co-generation plant that provides steam and electricity to the various customers at the Chemical Park Delfzijl. Delesto supplies steam (700 tonnes/hr), electricity (530 MW) and other utility products.
The products are supplied to many plants at the Chemical Park Delfzijl; however, the major part of the generated electricity is supplied to the public grid. By extensive application of the energy efficient combined heat and power technology, Delesto contributes significantly to alleviating the pressure on the environment at the Chemical Park Delfzijl.
