This is taken from the train trestle. This beautiful view is common around the Camas Prairie, but so uncommon.
No way I could stop on the bridge over the Washougal River in Camas WA., so I stuck my camera out the window at 55 mph and caught this scene of the papermill on the way to work this morning.
Death camas, Zygadenus venenosus, synthesizes an alkaloid that is poisonous to livestock, particularly sheep. Humans consuming the bulbs of death camas have died as well.
The alkaloid that protects the plant is also in its nectar, so this plant is poisonous to bees, but not all pollinators.
Another plant in the same genus, Zygadenus elegans, has the same name, death camas, for the same reason. Z. elegans is typically high in the mountains, while Z. venenosus is often associated with sagebrush.
I found a population of Z. venenosus at the ecotone between the Great Plains and the foothills of the Front Range.
Death camas and sego or mariposa lily and wild onion are all in the lily family, and the bulbs of mariposa lilies and wild onions are edible, while the very similar bulbs of death camas are deadly poisonous. Mistakes have been made.
The name of this flower is Camas and they are in bloom right now. I just don’t like their name so I’m going to pull an Anne Shirley for the title of this photo.

as usually is said every pic tells a story. This story is about my little dog filipão. he is very funny and loves to put himself inside all type of covers he find. For Christmas i got a new edredon for my deb that is very soft and very hot. Since then when we by mistake lett bed room open and he desappears we know where he hides himself. what a better place to be that sleeping inside edredom? I catch this picture when looking for him and he went out of bed edredon LOL:
