Step inside the historic home of Dr. Abraham Groves, built in 1880. The limestone structure is ideally located in the core of downtown Fergus, close to everything you’ll want to experience here, most notably the views of the Grand River, pubs, restaurants and theatre. The beautifully appointed self-contained suite features a private entrance, queen bed with an ensuite, modern laundry facilities and free wireless and cable TV.

Starting on Nov. 12th, 2012, nobody is allowed to climb any glaciated mountain in Ecuador without hiring an accredited mountain guide.

This restriction was issued by Ecuadorian Goverment after the last fatal accidents that happened in 2012 in Illiniza Sur and Norte.

***

Make sure you start before midnight so you'll be back before 10 am at the latest, for two reasons:

First, rock fall hazard. The part of the route along The Castle, a large rock wall about one hour from the Refugio Whymper, gets dangerous around that time. Lots of small and large rocks start to fall down then from this high wall due to warming temperatures.

Passing this area (El Corredor) later in the afternoon is really running between falling rocks.

Secondly, clouds will most often roll in early in the afternoon, making route finding very difficult. As there are big areas of crevasses on both sides of the normal route, losing track can be very dangerous.

***

As I said earlier, most parties climb directly from the Whymper refuge (5,000 m / 16,400 ft.). It provides bunk-beds (4 dozens), brand new mattresses, toilets, cold water, basic food supplies, stencils, gas stove, fireplace and ... cable TV (just kidding!) .

At the moment overnight costs in Whymper refuge is USD. 15.00 a night for a bed and USD. 30.00 with meals. The refuge is partially open

You can find the same facilities and costs in the Carrel refuge (4,800 m / 15,744 ft.) as well. This refuge is completely open with 52 beds. Your climb will have to start an hour earlier, though.

What else do you need? Camping is also allowed anywhere on the mountain and some parties make a high camp to cut the summit push in two days which, I think, increases your chances to make it to the summit. The most recommendable are:

El Castillo high camp, lays in the hollow of a bowl, just a few meters beyond the rock outcrop and at the left side (north) of the Southwest ridge (the normal route). Not advisable if there’s fresh snow accumulation on the first dome. This camp can get pummeled at least by the windblast of avalanches coming from above.

Moraine camp, located 10 minutes away from Whymper refuge at 5,050 m. There’s a wide flat field in this area. Make sure you set camp away from the moraines and the Thielman glacier.

We'll be away to our summerhouse for the next couple of weeks with no wifi, no cable TV, - quiet and peaceful.

NO, this is not our summerhouse, - but a nice house on the waterfront.

A least chipmunk (Neotamias minimus) advances up a rock to get a better view of its world. Least chipmunks are the most common chipmunks in the Rocky Mountains, occurring from low elevation pine forests up into the alpine tundra. Seemingly in constant motion, least chipmunks spend the majority of their time foraging for seeds, fruits, and small insects. During the winter they hibernate (true torpor- mostly turn off their internal heaters) in nests insulated with dried plants, fur, and feathers, but occasionally emerge from torpor to eat.

This summer there seemed to be a bumper crop of least chipmunks in the Colorado Front Range and possibly elsewhere. I had 4 that regularly foraged around my cabin at the Mountain Research Station, providing entertainment rivaling any new cable tv series. One chipmunk figured out how to forage inside the cabin (along with the deer mice and occasional pack rat). Evidently I need to patch some holes.

In a sunny monsoon morning I was in our front yard garden when i attracted by a sweet call. I found this young 'Black drongo'(Dicrurus macrocercus) perched on the cable TV wires. It looked beautiful against the coloeful wall of our neighbor's house. This small passerine birds are found in much of tropical southern Asia from southeast Iran through India, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, southern China and Indonesia. They are very aggrasive in nature. They often attack much larger birds like crow. They alarm other birds about predators.(Info: WIKI)

Spending the night in the motel at the edge of town in Marfa. slurl - maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/ValiumSL/50/100/58

In the mid-1800s, these were the common types of Acadian homes, as they usually had a porch on the front which gave families a place to sit....cool off.....and "socialize".

I can remember growing up in the 60's & 70's....prior to cable TV, shopping malls, organized children's dance/sports, fast food restaurants, and the internet......and on the weekends.....we would just "go visiting".

Back then, we all kept in close touch with our relatives and always knew what was going on in everyone's lives.....even if sometimes sharing one another's business was considered "gossip".

Hopefully, these challenging times will remind us all of how insignificant some things really are......and how precious life and family really is to us......

Maybe it's best to use this as an opportunity to reassess our priorities and reconnect with some long lost friends and/or family members.

When this "social distancing thing" is over.........Let's do more "visiting".

I'm very thankful for the visits I get here on Flickr.

Thank Y'all for your comments - Have a great Weekend !

This is probably one of the best places for American Pickers. I used to watch that show when I had cable TV. There must be some collectible treasures inside this garage.

I'm striking out this month with comments...sorry...First it was a week of problems with Flickr & now today I had no internet or Cable TV service for a good portion of the day...My whole town was out...I'll try to catch up on some this evening & Sunday.

The Bottle Brush shrub is related to the New Zealand native Pohutukawa, but the two plants are quite different.

I'm certainly not an expert on New Zealand plants, but for starters, the Bottle Brush (above) is a shrub; the Pohutukawa grows into a tall tree, and: the Bottle Brush flowers look just like a brush that would be used to wash the inside of a bottle - whereas the Pohutukawa flower (though the same colour) is round in shape.

This Bloom was captured whilst on the same Walk as the Plovers were found in the previous Image - and like Pohutukawa (and their near cousins the Rata), they add a lovely splash of Red wherever they're found...!

I had to start work at 6am this morning, and although I was home by 3:30pm, I have to admit: I was - and am - feeling rather shattered (I must have been on holiday for too long)...! Then the Internet (AND disaster of disasters) Cable TV!!! went down as Gale-force winds roared up the Valley at high speed, and so - unable to get onto the Web - I went for a walk, wrote a couple of letters to Flickr Friends... posted this photo, and have now finally decided it's time to call it a night!

So I'm sorry Folks: I'll catch up with all your photos in the morning (I'm back on holiday!), but in the meantime: thanks for all your kind Comments!

When I passed through Whittier in 2012 , I came upon a cluster of abandoned motels. Amazingly, a couple of the buildings were still standing, while for others, only the signs remained. This one offered "remote cable TV." Whittier, North Carolina. 10.8.2012.

A disconnected Cable TV/Internet junction box and rubble - some of the more recent houses in the Tweebos quarter had a concrete core. And how evocative an artefact like this can be.

The demolition of the Tweebosbuurt is in an advanced state now. Check out the back story here.

This Osprey brings back what some fishermen would call a "lunker". If you wonder where the head is, the bird eliminates that first. Nature can be beautiful, but it also can be cruel. This nest is built on top of a cell tower in Burton, MI, a cell tower near a cable TV/internet provider. How ironic!

I really thought they'd not bother to repair this again but I was wrong. Work started this week.

White stands for the proposed borders of an excavation. When crews need to mark the limits of the excavation needed for a basement, or even just a trench, they mark the outlines in white paint. This is usually the first step before any underground infrastructure is precisely located. It shows where the digging will occur.

Orange chalk indicates communications. This could include cable TV, phone systems, alarm wiring, fiber optics, or conduits intended to carry signals rather than power. With our modern reliance on telecommunications, it’s wise to be careful when digging around orange markings.

Blue chalk s the color of water, thus it makes sense that blue markings indicate the presence of water lines. Though not as potentially disastrous as a gas or power line, hitting a water pipe or main would have some pretty severe consequences on a project and surrounding residents. Take care around water, despite the peaceful, blue color.

Yellow means natural gas, petroleum, or steam. It’s the color for urgency and caution. Anyone who’s tapped into a gas line and lived to tell the tale knows the value of accurate markings for gas lines. Oil and steam can be almost as problematic. Take care when you see yellow markings.

The same cabin I took from my Yosemite trip.

I wouldn't mind spending my vacation here in the summer, but I must have cable TV and internet access 😁😜!

Have a wonderful week ahead dear friends.

Once upon a time, long, long ago, in a galaxy right here, before cell phones, before Verizon, even before cable TV, telephone service (now called "landlines") was provided by this regional utility company. This is Miss Stumpy, a lovely Red Squirrel who lives in our neighbourhood, and who I put food out for. She once had a long, bushy tail like the rest of the native Red Squirrels in the area, but somehow the tip got kinked, and eventually fell off. It doesn't seem to have affected her, and I noticed recently she had a little one (who I just call "The Kid"). Here she is, about to set out to explore, using our network of power, telephone and cable TV lines.

Taken on my walk this morning. Most houses here have three cables delivering services. Power, internet/cable TV, and landline phone.

Listen up, cause I'm only telling you this once. I'm not bedtime story lady, so pay attention. It's 2033. The world is *screwed* now. You see, a while ago this humongous comet came crashing into the earth. Bam, total devastation. End of the world as we know it. No celebrities, no cable TV, no water. It hasn't rained in 11 years. Now 20 people gotta squeeze inside the same bathtub - so it ain't all bad.

You see, a while ago this humongous comet came crashing into the earth. Bam, total devastation. End of the world as we know it. No celebrities, no cable TV, no water. It hasn't rained in 11 years. Now 20 people gotta squeeze inside the same bathtub - so it ain't all bad.

Shot in bright sunlight. Hasselblad Super Wide camera with Film Washi E printed circuit film. Sensitive to blue and red but not to green. ISO 3

Thomaston, Georgia

I like colors.

This is what this street east of the Square looked like long ago. It was largely and agricultural and industrial section, then. It is now a center of music and night life, with plenty of good food, music, and booze. The building at the extreme right later served as the location for the Denton cable TV company and its channel 25; this operated under several names. East Hickory intersects the picture towards the back. One of the businesses on the right is now Dan's Silverleaf. The tall buildings of Texas Woman's University are visible in the back ground, about 1/2 to 3/4 of a mile distant. Look to the right, and you can see an International Harvester sign. Even at this late date, the city's and county's economy was based on agriculture.

It's Thomaston, Georgia with a HolgaGlo 120N Camera and Lomo Turquoise Film.

That's another day behind me but what lies ahead for Tomorrow in this corona-virus pandemic?

My hobby is photography. The clouds are unchanged here. I just enhanced the color with Adobe Lightroom software.

There's a new cable TV show called HUGE which is based on author Sasha Paley's book of the same name. My friend Trixie is a big fan of this show and its star, Nikki Blonsky (who appeared in the film-musical Hairspray as the daughter of the John Travolta's character.) Me and my flickr friends had a photowalk-cum-shopping last Sunday and we came across this billboard at the mall.

HUGE airs on ABC Family every Monday @ 9PM.
