you know, grass-stained knees, little felt houses, sunny afternoon, the usual.

This is a series of images showing a cabin, which I made out of a found whiskey box and cut paper, being opened.

There is a whole story that is told through the assembling of this scene which is explained in depth here:

“The friendship:

With a high school friend,

my alter ego,

... always daring to do what I was too inhibited to do,

which is why I enjoyed her company.”

~ Amy Wilson ~

Do we all have an alter ego? I've never really thought about it until I played with this image tonight and came up with this reflective piece! It all began with a quick night shot of the fall ferns in our front yard! Today we were in an art gallery and I saw a similar painting but with camouflaged turtles!

Decided to upload my ferns and play for awhile!

Some say The Beatles made use of alter egos while performing "Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club" to alter their egos and free themselves in order to have fun!

Well, all I really wanted to accomplish was to wish everyone a HAPPY OCTOBER FIRST

and, of course to HAVE FUN!

note: if you click on "L" the effect is even more spooky with the cross in the background!

“Would that there were an award for people who come to understand the concept of enough. Good enough. Successful enough. Thin enough. Rich enough. Socially responsible enough. When you have self-respect, you have enough.”

When in doubt, make a fool of yourself. There is a microscopically thin line between being brilliantly creative and acting like the most gigantic idiot on earth. So what the hell, leap.”

I like the version on my facebook page better, but this was worth sharing as well.

DITA Dancer Hannah Sullivan Ferianc takes a turn in the red dress - the transition piece in the time-based art work "Angle of Repose," created by Dance in the Annex (DITA). There are four live exhibition times for "Angle of Repose," an ArtPrize 2013 juror-selected "Short List" nominee, at SiTE:LAB (54 Jefferson Ave.) The diverse, multimedia-enhanced modern dance experience was created and curated by DITA Artistic Director and founder, Amy Wilson.

Live exhibit times are available at the link below. During non-live public times, an original "Angle of Repose" dance-on-camera film projects on the ramp where the artists dance during live times.

And the time-based, modern dance DITA exhibition would begin. DITA next performs at TRIP THE LIGHT (May 2014) at Wealthy Theatre.

I thought about things that were beautiful

because of what seemed like

evolutionary necessity

on which their survival hinged.

I wondered what other purpose these creatures served other than to mesmerize and delight us.

DITA Dancer Lisa Fogle Sachs takes her turn with The Dress, created by a local seamstress using locally acquired parachute material - The Dress serves as a transition between time-based works of art created that take place on the "canvas," a 30' ramp that is the dancers' stage in the DITA gallery at SiTE:LAB, during ArtPrize. DITA Dancers take turns creating transitions with The Dress and it's one of the most popular "brushes" in the entire "palette" Dance in the Annex brings to bear, in the live exhibitions. Popular among the artists and the attendees.

DITA Dancer Johanna Schuyten confirms that dancers are a different species, in this phrase from Amy (Wilson's) piece on exhibit at SiTE:LAB during ArtPrize.

Ok, so this is the centermost spread - there are three trees (everything is made out of cut paper; the individual sizes of each piece is 6 x 9 or less) that go up to about 4' or so. Then around them, and extending out eight feet on either side, is this whole scene featuring art galleries, a corn field, factories, suburban homes, a lake, a bi-plane and modern passenger planes (which actually fly off into the next room) and so on.

What sucks is that I spent most of the summer building this thing, only to find that it really didn't fit in the space very well... so I've spent the last marathon four days basically rebuilding it... yikes! I am so tired. I'm still really happy because it seems to all be coming together...

I've worked in the Third Ward for six years. Amy and I have lived in the Third Ward for almost twice that long. This is the only home our children have known: it'll forever be "where they grew up."

For most of this time, we've had two great leaders representing our Ward: the beloved Commissioners Jim White and Eli Lumpkins. I'm fortunate to work with them regularly. They've been true friends. I remember when Jim said he wouldn't seek re-election this year, my first reaction was anxiety. He's always been our Commissioner. Our entire world is right here, in this Third Ward: it's where we live, work, shop, have fun and raise our three children, who are lifelong GRPS students. So, Amy and I have got skin in the game, like all our neighbors, and this August primary is possibly the most important election in over a decade, for all of us, here in the Third Ward.

When Michael Tuffelmire announced that he would run for election as our Third Ward City Commissioner, my first reaction was... relief. Because I know this person's character, and his work ethic. I know what Michael has done for public transportation, for one thing, which is so vital to all facets of life in my neighborhood.

We honor Jim White's legacy by electing Michael Tuffelmire, confirming our identity in the great City of Grand Rapids by declaring once more: the Third Ward values integrity, hard work and boots-on-the-ground representation. The opportunity to vote for Michael Tuffelmire in August is much more than a choice: it is a gift. He is almost inarguably the hardest working man in Grand Rapids, and he's dedicated his life to fighting for people who'd otherwise be left on the margins. Michael is one of the finest human beings I've ever met, and in my dreams I could not have imagined a better person to step up and offer their service in representation of the Third Ward, as our next City Commissioner.

We will do everything we can to help him, because this neighborhood is our whole world, and I will sleep better at night knowing he's fighting for our Ward's place in the very bright future of this amazing City, we all love so well.

Pictured here are three reasons why I know my daughter will succeed in life. This is what Siona does when a group of older boys at the playground say there's no point in joining their contest, because there's "no way" she could hold herself up in the air. So this is her middle finger in three frames

Bryan/Cyrus has been shamelessly pimping my drawings to the masses, so I made him this as a present. It's us on a tandem bike in Second Life, riding around and freaking random strangers out for no reason at all. Yeah.
