In 1964 the young Paul Simon wrote The Sound of Silence, a song that more than half a century later is still sadly valid. He couldn’t imagine that in 2020s we would still talk about his dialogue with the most intimate part of himself, opened by one of the most beautiful opening words ever written.
There have been multiple theories about the meaning of this song. For example, some believe it is related to the death of JFK or the Vietnam War. But many think it is something simpler. And the author himself has verified that it has to do with something as simple as lack of communication.
This is a message that resonates, even more, today than it did 59 years ago, which is perhaps what led Disturbed to create a hauntingly beautiful cover of the song. It was most famously played live on "Conan" on March 28, 2016, and the video of it on YouTube has garnered a mere 75 million views since.

This is an image of our natural satellite taken on a warm August morning last year.
Some prominent lunar maria (plural of mare, sea, lava filled plains) on the near side are (see annotated image for identifying these and other prominent features): Mare Imbrium (Sea of Showers, second larger lunar sea), Mare Serenitatis (Sea of Serenity), Mare Nubium (Sea of Clouds) and Oceanus Procellarum (Ocean of Storms, largest lunar basin). Prominent craters among others are Copernicus (diameter 93 Km), Plato (100 Km), Archimedes (83 Km), Aristarchus (40 Km, brightest lunar feature), Aristoteles (87 Km) and Tycho (86 Km, center of a large ray system).
Features close to the lunar terminator (day-night division) are seen better due to low angle illumination by the sun - that’s why the Full-Moon phase is the worse time to observes, as there are no shadows cast by lunar features.
Not the best image quality, since this is just one single exposure on a night with mediocre seeing (Moon altitude was also low, about 25o). Much better results are achieved by stacking lots of video frames on nights of good seeing conditions, still I was totally absorbed by simply observing through the eyepiece(s) with a bino-viewer, a very rewarding accessory for visual study of the Moon and the planets. I can also verify for those interested that the Sky-Watcher Mak 150 is a great scope for planetary observing and photography.
Thanks to everyone for looking. Clear skies to all!

The Orchidaceae are a diverse and widespread family of flowering plants, with blooms that are often colourful and fragrant, commonly known as the orchid family. Along with the Asteraceae, they are one of the two largest families of flowering plants. The Orchidaceae have about 28,000 currently accepted species, distributed in about 763 genera. The determination of which family is larger is still under debate, because verified data on the members of such enormous families are continually in flux. Regardless, the number of orchid species is nearly equal to the number of bony fishes, more than twice the number of bird species, and about four times the number of mammal species. The family encompasses about 6–11% of all seed plants. The largest genera are Bulbophyllum (2,000 species), Epidendrum (1,500 species), Dendrobium (1,400 species) and Pleurothallis (1,000 species). It also includes Vanilla (the genus of the vanilla plant), the type genus Orchis, and many commonly cultivated plants such as Phalaenopsis and Cattleya. Moreover, since the introduction of tropical species into cultivation in the 19th century, horticulturists have produced more than 100,000 hybrids and cultivars. Orchids are easily distinguished from other plants, as they share some very evident, shared derived characteristics, or synapomorphies. Among these are: bilateral symmetry of the flower (zygomorphism), many resupinate flowers, a nearly always highly modified petal (labellum), fused stamens and carpels, and extremely small seeds. 32775

Computer scientist Margaret Hamilton helped get the Apollo 11 astronauts to the Moon. She led the Software Engineering Division of the MIT Instrumentation Laboratory, the team responsible for developing the guidance and navigation system for the Apollo spacecraft and writing the code that brought astronauts into space and safely back home again.
Hamilton’s leadership and work formed the bedrock of software engineering as a whole. In this now-iconic photo, Hamilton stands next to listings of the Apollo Guidance Computer source code.
The MM theme is odd and the micro-mini duckies are back!! After a MM posting last week that wasn’t at all my usual, I thought the blue duckies should make an appearance.
Having observed many times in my Australian garden, that Dragonflies and Damselflies like to cling to bare stems and twigs, in my French garden I prepared a few perches around, by removing the leaves from small branches which tend to stick out of trees and bushes. When I found this Southern Darter (Sympetrum meridionale) clinging to such thoughtfully prepared perch, I felt very happy to see that observation pays :) /

Antoni Gallart.

Comment how the photograph was taken, English language:
I promised you that I would upload the photograph of the phantasm and here you have it.
Once we decided to stay to take night photos, the group was taking photos side by side, forming the first row lying on the ground, the second at half height and the third with the tripod raised, so that we did not bother each other with the others.
I chose a very low plane with the tripod fully open and one foot off the ground.
I took several shots with different exposure times to ensure a good capture.
Once the session with this frame is finished, I am about to verify the results and I see some boots or shoes that walk on my left side and I comment to the companions, who had passed by us and they answered me that no one, the bridge was lonely , I show them my capture and they begin to look at each other and nobody had seen it, but it happened ... it passed by us, there I leave it to your discretion.
Analyzing the shoes they look like leather boots of the time ... for that reason I have put this title in this photo that I hope you like. Antoni Gallart.

The #MacroMondays theme for 3/25 is “cold” and this had just come out of the freezer- one of my three favorite desserts!
Yes, I shamelessly purchased this pie this week so I could photograph it and we all know that the first rule of food photography is that you must eat the photo props so they don’t go to waste (but go to waist). Apologies that there is not a context picture because I followed that rule!!
I’ll add the size verification in the comment section in a little bit.
…….💙❄️ HMM ❄️💙
The Macro Mondays theme for 1/8/24 is “wet” and it appears we’re in for our first snowstorm of this winter tonight and tomorrow, so I thought I’d get at least one possibility loaded into the photostream in case we lose our power or somesuch….. (how do you like that run-on sentence?)…. size verification later- the entire setting is under 2 inches.

In the 1660s, English physicist and mathematician Isaac Newton began a series of experiments with sunlight and prisms. Based on his experiments he argued that the geometric nature of the laws of reflection and refraction could only be explained if light is made of particles, which he referred to as corpuscles, as waves don't tend to travel in straight lines. Newton concluded that light is composed of colored particles that combine to appear white.

GMC 910 Truck 1969 Owner Verification (Vintage manual focus lens) - Chatted for a while to the owner of this 1969 GMC 910 Truck (he verified the year) who was unloading it outside the skate hire shop at Olympic Plaza today. He’d owned the truck for a number of years and was thinking about having it repainted in the spring. Didn’t look in bad shape given it’s age!
No idea how old this ring is but it has been in the family for as long as I can remember and I'm an old guy now. I think it belonged to my grandmother. It is said to be a ruby but I can't verify that. For the Macro Mondays challenge: "Rings."
Exceptions verify the rule, but every moment is forever. And the moment it's over, it's been over half an hour ago. After an hour it's a day ago, after a day, a week, and so on. And when it's over it took only an hour or two, when it reality it was a whole day at work. Selling a ticket to the last car on the ferry, taking a look around if I forgot anyone, and I spot the red convertible all the way at the front. Oh right, that one, now that I see it. That's still there. Completely forgot I ever met that at all. Might as well have been ten crossings ago that I sold him his ticket.
Today I went to one of my ship spotting places. Yesterday... did I even go anywhere yesterday? Ah right, Hattingen. Or was that the day before yesterday? Did yesterday even happen? If so, where was I? Spending another day not worth remembering, I guess.
‘Trust, but verify)’ is a Russian proverb, which is rhyming in Russian. The phrase became internationally known in English after a scholar of Russian history taught it to Ronald Reagan, then president of the US. Reagan used it on several occasions in the context of nuclear disarmament discussions with the Soviet Union.
So this version includes the essence of the teabag. #SmileonSaturday theme of #CoffeeorTea. It smells delicious in here! I may go brew me up a cuppa!
And this version is a possibility for the #MacroMondays theme of #string. And, yay, I found the ruler! So I can do a size verification, later!
I do love a two-fer
…….💙HMM🎻🎸💙
…..By the way, I decided to go with this one because I really like the reflection of the string in the tea house. 🏡 …. The size verification coming up later- the whole scene is about 5cm.
