Every now and then just give yourself the joy of getting out and seeing the world - it really is a sumptuous place!!

Never more true than on this hike - top to bottom in one day... My spine still recovering from all its hospital nonsense it was my first real big physical test... made it... just... But the emotion of the beauty and what it meant is with me forever...

Same as the previous upload but I've knocked the spots off it! Thanks McSporran for kindly pointing them out. In my defence I've been whitewashing ceilings for days, all I'm seeing is spots.

RIAT 2022's outstanding participant must be this US Air Force Boeing E-4B Watchkeeper 73-1676

Using call-sign 'Gordo 01' she arrived on the Friday as a static exhibit for the show.

Here on Departure Day, she's being towed to the western hold before starting and once airborne she set course for RAF Mildenhall where she performed a number of circuits before setting course for Aviano Air Base in Northern Italy

One of four used by the US Air Force as Advanced Airborne Command Posts, they carry thirteen external communications systems along with Air to Air refuelling capability and are designed for missions lasting 72 hours

I took a photo from the same spot five years ago (in the Seattle album on here) and it's interesting to see how much the skyline has changed in that time.

Even though we spent two nights in The Dalles, we already had our routine sorted. Dan wanted to get the first light shot of the Eastbound Z at 'The Dalles' bridge, Andy R'bauer was not functional before breakfast and was cranky about committing to what he had agreed to the night before, and I was in the middle, wanting coverage and a nice breakfast that would take a year of my life for every mouthful (seriously, their portion sizes are diabetically big).

After the BNSF Z came through, it was time to decide which side of the river we wanted to sit and stare at signals. This morning, we chose the UP, which paid off as we scored an Eastbound Z at Celilo right after seeing a Westbound potash with CP and KCS power. The UP Z boosted a mix of international containers upfront and domestic in the middle and rear portions with four locos up front and two shoving from the rear. We didn't bother to chase this further, as beating it from Celilo was barely obtainable (never underestimate a boomer who has had his morning coffee).

What I find interesting about Biggs Junction is that the local area has a population of 0. Now I'm gonna make the assumption that this is alive, people, as just a glance at the place told me that the population of dead hookers truck drivers never paid for would give the population of The Dalles a run for its money. On a lighter note, however, how pretty Mount Hood looks with its snow <3, and on a diabetic note, the gas station just up from this shot had the rolling hot doggies and beer. I weighed myself before and after my trip to the USofA and came back 6kg. God bless M'erica!!

You may also wonder why my caption and Flickr username are Big Nigs. Well, simply, I wanted to hook up with this girl when I was in high school, and I didn't want her to know my actual name, so I changed my username on Snapchat to Big Nigs, and since then, it has just stuck. Exciting story, I know...

The surreal-looking landscape of the Haleakalā crater in Maui, Hawaii.

It took many shots to get this one "wrong".

It was a bright and crisp morning, and there was more dew than usual. The sun and water complemented each other to create an effect of 'city lights at night'. I wanted to capture this feeling in the image. So I knew I had to get it "wrong".

On the way back from watching sunset on the beach, we saw a deer running through field near our house in Molokai. Then another, then another... then a few more. In all there must have been near a hundred of them, all heading in the same direction.

This one stopped for a bit to look at us, long enough for me to take a shot.

I'm quite pleased with this one given the challenging conditions, and it does show the limitations of the sensor. It was very low light, long focal length, moving subjects and hand held. That meant cranking up the ISO far more than I normally do. I tried to deal with this a bit in Lightroom but it does still show. However, I love the shot despite this and thankfully the deer stayed put just long enough for a snap.

Was going to be 7 panel stitch..haha.. memory card ran out. Last pics of the day....in fact, last picts of the trip.. we left the next morning to go back home to USofA.

Fascinating architecture...leaning buildings? Not sure if that was by design or simply result of foundation movement.

Lovely

Hiking at 9,000ft across a massive volcano.

Taken from the roof of 230 Fifth, a fantastic bar with gorgeous views of the city. If you like this, check out the Hong Kong Skyline - Gotham City II and a strange perspective of Gotham City.

Feel free to add a note if you recognize any building/street.

See more New York.
