In 1963, I Hitchhike Route 66, From Chicago To Santa Monica California, And Then Into Mexico, I Was 17. Images@kennethcanada.com
I jumped out of the car to take this photo in poring rain and high winds - water droplets got to the lens - but I had to have a photo of a Routemaster!
Converted to monochrome.
A foggy day in Loughton. I really liked the old style direction fingerpost.
Apologies for not being so active here. Health reasons I'm sorry to say and at this point I fear it might be for most of 2023 before all matters are resolved.
In the valley of the Lozoya River is Rascafría, a beautiful mountain town that serves as a starting point for many routes and excursions through this beautiful area of the Sierra de Guadarrama in the Community of Madrid, the Artiñuelo stream crosses the town.
The route to the dam of the Artiñuelo stream is ideal to do at any time of the year, although the best time may be autumn, because you walk through the thicket of an extensive oak grove that stains ocher and yellow the road to to reach the dam, in summer, it can be done perfectly since the creek gives freshness and the oaks a good shade, in winter it is very likely that everything is snowy and you have to walk with crampons.

Get your kicks on Route Sixty-Six...
The shortest crossing to the Isle of Skye is from here, said to be the route Bonnie Prince Charlie took to escape from the English.
Last week was such a long, tough week. I'm so glad it's over and am moving on...down Route 66 ;)

Seen here on a part of Sewardstone Road it doesn't normally use. Due to resurfacing of a road it does use, it was diverted to the bottom of Kings Head Hill and right into Sewardstone Road coming from Chingford Station.
SQL chased a deer in the forest, it ran down a tree-lined drive leading to a château. He wondered whether to follow ......
A composite of shots taken by me - HSS!
Despite the rural look it's two short stops away from a railway & bus station and a road full of shops.
Route 66 runs right by the Petrified Forest National Park. We only had a short amount of time available to go by some Route 66 spots. We have plans to spend more time on Route 66 the next time that we are in the area.
I was quite surprised to find that Sundays and Bank Holidays that the service was run by a large minibus. Even so - seen here in Loughton - it seems to be moving fresh air about. If services aren't used, they generally don't last.
Converted to monochrome. Taken through shelter glass.
A recent closure of Chingford Lane meant quite a diversion for Route 275, seen here at the bottom of Friday Hill, from there turning right into Whitehall Road, right onto the A104 and line of route at The Castle.

As seen on the stand at Chigwell Row, Essex.
I see the marketing aspect of painting the route up on the bus, but it really loses its flexibility, as it's bound to be used on other routes due to bus shortage for whatever reason.
CSX SD40-2s 8388 and 8853 lead a K44607 on the Big Sandy Subdivision. This empty ethanol train from Charlotte took the former Clinchfield and C&O to get back north, the first train to run the length of the Clinchfield since 2015 excluding the Santa Claus train. This was pretty cool! Thanks to all the birdies who kept us informed of this unexpected and awesome move. This is a regular through route today, but standard cabs are unfortunately NOT regular.
Route 55 (a.k.a. Sognefjellsvegen in Norway) across the Sognefjell mountain area is the highest mountain pass in Northern Europe, with spectacular and wild mountain scenery.
It is the main gateway to the Jotunheimen National Park - Norway’s highest mountains.
Note the month this photo was taken in - does it look like July?
Bus services were disrupted in the recent snow. Here we see a Route 179 in Station Road, Chingford, that would normally have gone to Ilford. To be going only as far as South Woodford is quite a curtailment. Luckily, an Ilford bus was only a few minutes behind this one.
U.S. Route 93 is a major north–south United States highway in the western United States. At the request of the Arizona State Highway Department, the AASHO route numbering committee approved another extension of US 93 in 1935. This shifted the southern terminus south to Kingman, Arizona, by way of Las Vegas.
