A sharply dressed black-and-white seabird with a huge, multicolored bill, the Atlantic Puffin is often called the clown of the sea. It breeds in burrows on islands in the North Atlantic, and winters at sea. In flight, puffins flap their small wings frantically to stay aloft—but underwater those wings become powerful flippers that allow the birds to catch small fish one by one until they have a beak full."

Lunde Bridge, or Lundebrue as the locals say, was built in 1827-1829. It is today Norway's oldest and largest (132 meters long) drywall stone vault bridge that is still in use. Parts of the bridge were destroyed when it was tried to blow up by Norwegian soldiers during the fighting in Valdres in 1940, but was quickly rebuilt the following year. In 1984, the bridge was protected.

Let me tell you the fascinating and dramatic story of this bird island on the west coast of Norway. In the year 1725 a ship from the Netherlands descended here. The ship was loaded with gold. The gold treasure was later found by divers.
Runde has only 150 inhabitants. But every summer, more than 500,000 seabirds come to the island to nest. And tourists from all over Europe come here, either to experience this adventure or to find remnants of the gold treasure.

"Despite having wings, the puffin is a poor flier. It must flap its wings 300 to 400 beats per minute to stay airborne. It also has trouble landing gracefully and often crashes and tumbles onto the sea or grass. But the puffin is a strong swimmer and its wings serve it best by helping it “fly” underwater.
The puffin comes to land to burrow and breed for four to five months a year." The Royal Canadian Geographical Society
