Still experimenting here with this bokeh technique and editing. I’m not sure if I’m happy with this, but I’m rarely certain anyway! :)

According to one of the fathers of British entomology, William Kirby (1759-1850), the beauty and the attributes of insects are proof for the Highest Attributes of their Creator. No, Charles Darwin had not yet published (1859) his book on the origin of species nor his arguments against a Good Divinity based on, for example, the parasitic lives of Wasps.

In 1802 Kirby in his authoritative work on British Bees named this one for Samuel Goodenough (1745-1827). Bishop of Carlisle (1808-1827), Goodenough was also an avid naturalist.

Our Cuckoo Bee is resting in the sun on Mossy Saxifrage.

This stunning bee is a Gooden's nomad bee, Nomada goodeniana, a female, I think, which is named after Reverend Samuel Goodenough (1743-1827). I just love their eyes!

Nomad bees, which tend to look very wasp-like, are so named as they do not have 'homes'; they are also known as cuckoo bees, because, being cleptoparasites, they lay their eggs in the nests of other bees. On hatching in the nest of the host, the nomad bee grub eats the food of the host bee grub, and then uses its large mandibles to kill the host grub.

Gooden's nomad bee is a cleptoparasite of the buffish mining bee, Andrena nigroaenea, among other Andrena species.

I photographed this individual in May 2020 (trying to get my bee photos and records in order before my Bee50 challenge!)

How many years did I spend worrying about how I looked or how I came across 😥.....It didn't change anything really apart from constricting my true self ‍♀️ taking mental energy to what other's would think of me rather than using my energy on me ♥

Pretty huge enlargement of a most interesting foot. Inspiration obtained after viewing Gary Goodenough's Bird Foot Series.

Goodenough Canyon in southeastern Idaho can be an amazing place in autumn. Mountain maples are a relatively small tree but the colors are amazing variations of red, orange, and yellow. This view looks straight up into the canopy at the peak of fall color. The photo was taken in 2006 and scanned as part of my project to digitize my slides.

The Daniel Goodenough House in Ludington, Michigan was built in 1888. It was a B&B, but apparently it has been closed since 2005.

I was looking for the history of this house online and found it's real estate listing. This house can be yours for a mere half-million dollars!

This location is a lot lower elevation than my Bear Lake Valley, so the snow has melted and this storm is rain instead of snow. The photo was taken from a foothill of the Bannock Range looking across Marsh Creek to a storm in the Portneuf Range. The I-15 freeway crosses the center of the valley and the cluster of buildings in right center is a truckstop in McCammon, Idaho. Marsh Creek meanders through farm land that will turn green in another few weeks.

Tombstone is a city in Cochise County, Arizona, United States, founded in 1879 by prospector Ed Schieffelin in what was then Pima County, Arizona Territory. It became one of the last boomtowns in the American frontier. The town grew significantly into the mid-1880s as the local mines produced $40 to $85 million in silver bullion, the largest productive silver district in Arizona. Its population grew from 100 to around 14,000 in less than seven years. It is best known as the site of the Gunfight at the O.K. Corral and draws most of its revenue from tourism. The city had a permanent population of 1,308, according to the 2020 census.

History

The town was established on Goose Flats, a mesa above the Goodenough Mine. Within two years of its founding, although far distant from any other metropolitan area, Tombstone had a bowling alley, four churches, an ice house, a school, two banks, three newspapers, and an ice-cream parlor, alongside 110 saloons, 14 gambling halls, and numerous dance halls and brothels. All of these businesses were situated among and atop many silver mines. The gentlemen and ladies of Tombstone attended operas presented by visiting acting troupes at the Schieffelin Hall opera house, while the miners and cowboys saw shows at the Bird Cage Theatre and brothel.

Under the surface were tensions that grew into deadly conflict. The mining capitalists and the townspeople were largely Republicans from the Northern states. Many of the ranchers (some of whom—like the Clantons—were also rustlers or other criminal varieties) were Confederate sympathizers and Democrats. The booming city was only 30 miles (48 km) from the U.S.–Mexico border and was an open market for cattle stolen from ranches in Sonora, Mexico, by a loosely organized band of outlaws known as The Cowboys. The Earp brothers—Wyatt, Virgil and Morgan—as well as Doc Holliday, arrived in December 1879 and mid-1880. The Earps had ongoing conflicts with Cowboys Ike and Billy Clanton, Frank and Tom McLaury, and Billy Claiborne. The Cowboys repeatedly threatened the Earps over many months until the conflict escalated into a shootout on October 26, 1881. The historic gunfight is often portrayed as occurring at the O.K. Corral, though it actually occurred a short distance away in an empty lot on Fremont Street.

In the mid-1880s, the silver mines penetrated the water table and the mining companies made significant investments in specialized pumps. A fire in 1886 destroyed the Grand Central hoist and the pumping plant, and it was deemed unprofitable to rebuild the costly pumps. The city nearly became a ghost town, saved only because it was the Cochise County seat until 1929. The city's population dwindled to a low of 646 in 1910, but grew to 1,380 by 2010. Tombstone has frequently been noted on lists of unusual place names.

Nope, it's not a pretty story, that of the discovery and exploitation of Rarotonga by Europeans, flamboyant as they may have been.

Famed Captain James Cook who sailed in this part of the Pacific in 1773 and 1777 never saw Rarotonga. And for a quarter of a century after it was sighted no European set foot here. Then in 1814 came William Charles Wentworth (1790-1872), later well-known Australian politician, and one Philip Goodenough (????-????, sorry internet is intermittent here and I know little else about him except the following) set foot on land here. They'd been told that Rarotonga abounded in Sandalwood and they thought they'd make a fortune. Not so. No Sandalwood here. So they hatched a new plan. There was another tree, the Nono as the natives called it, Morinda citrifolia. They used its roots for yellow dye. So the two heroes pressed the population into service to lade their ship, the 'Cumberland', with that root.

An historian tells us that on the ship were Wentworth with Mary Bouchier, captain Goodenough - who called Wentworth a 'half-marrow' because the latter was such a poor sailor -

"Goodenough and his whore", three other white men, three Lascars, two New Zealand Maori, and "two Tahitian women who served the carnal needs of the crew".

Back home the shipment of Nono turned out to be valueless.

Here's a view that motley crew must have seen of Te Manga and Ikurangi (as a wizened elderly gentleman gave me their names). And the vivid orange-red is Delonix regia, Flamboyant. It's a relatively new tree here, having been introduced to Rarotonga from Sri Lanka around 1900.

This was my eighth week in the flickr group Get Pushed. The purpose of the group is to take a challenge from a partner assigned to you each week. For this challenge I was paired with Nancy Goodenough. She has some remarkable work in her stream and it is definitely worth spending some time viewing her wonderful images. Her images are amazing!

Well, after examining my stream, she stated, "I was thinking rather than the modern buildings . . ., take a graphic sort of image of or in your house or school where the thumbnail looks like a graphic, but closer look you see it's part of a building inside or out. Could be part of a desk or chair even. Let your art go wild in a big graphic way. (No people/no nature in the shot!)

This was the most difficult challenge, but fun challenge. This proved to be hard for me, I think for me because I was so familiar with the subject that nothing really seem graphic enough to me. I really have a lot of room for improvement, but this was truly a push.

This was an excellent push, and I have had a great time working with and corresponding with Nancy.

I hope that this meets your expectations Nancy. I plan to continue working on this topic more. I did another set of images from objects in my classroom.

Thanks so much Nancy (Nancy Goodenough) this was truly are great push project.

Check out Nancy's fabulous response to my challenge here It's a must see and beautiful!

Thanks for viewing and have a wonderful day. :D

...now i can't let go of this dream

can't believe that i feel

its been such a long time coming, but i feel good

and i'm still waiting for the rain to fall

cause i can't hold on to anything this good enough...

These song lyric bits will go away soon enough. I've been in such a funk for quite a while now that I'm slowly getting out of. It's a fragile but oh so nice feeling.

Under your spell again

I can't say no to you

crave my heart and its bleeding in your hand

I can't say no to you

Shouldn't let you torture me so sweetly

now I can't let go of this dream

I can't breathe but I feel

Good enough

I feel good enough for you

Drink up sweet decadence

I can't say no to you

and I've completely lost myself and I don't mind

I can't say no to you

Shouldn't have let you conquer me completely

now I can't let go of this dream

can't believe that I feel

Good enough

I feel good enough

its been such a long time coming, but I feel good

And I'm still waiting for the rain to fall

pour real life down on me

cause I can't hold on to anything this good

enough

am I good enough

for you to love me too ?

So take care what you ask of me

cause I can't say no.

So.... This round of getting pushed I got the superb photographer Nancy Goodenough [http://www.flickr.com/photos/nancygoodenough/] She has a lot of great stuff in her photostream, be sure to check her out! Anyways the push.....

---------------------------------------------------------------

Danny, I'm going thru your photostream and one idea I have is for you to take an image of only a reflection, from any source - water, car or store windows, whatever, from an unusual pov and perhaps so it's hard to tell what it is or how you got it. I see you got an abstract push and didn't particularly like doing that. I'm visualizing something different from that, taking an image from a reflection and it may turn out abstract or it may not.

---------------------------------------------------------------

So basically it was to take a reflection shot. Now I scrambled my mind for a reflection picture and honestly. I couldn't really think of anything with a reflection. I haven't gone to the beach in awhile since I haven't really had time to and no rain in Seattle (despite the association) in fact no rain in Seattle for about a few weeks now. Any who, this probably isn't the best picture I could come up with. I apologize, I tried doing a shot with water reflections and I just couldn't get the water to reflect an image (grr....) anywhos, I guess I just tried to make a shot from nothing, just tried to make use of that beautiful weather we're getting. The subject is some milk chocolate from Theo! Great company from Washington that makes delicious chocolate! Organic for that matter. Anyways enjoy the rest of summer.

Oh, Thanks for the push Nancy!

Reach beyond you capabilities

Confront your fears

You may fall, or you may stumble

Take the lesson learnt

Your good enough

- Einar Søyland

you can interpret this picture in every way you want to.

But for me, 1srt this picture is for - Miracle Laurie, an amazing actress from Dollhouse.

And well 2nd is for the real miracles that exists out there.

3rd You ARE beautiful! Beauty comes in every way and you should be confortable of who you are.

And one more thing: You ARE good enough, no matter what people think and say, remember that ;)

And right now i'm listening to this Taylor swift song, the lyrics are amazing. You should listen, its called Invisible!

'And I just wanna show you

She don’t even know you

She's never gonna love you like I want to

You just see right through me but if you only knew me

We could be a beautiful miracle unbelievable instead of just invisible'
