Gentoo Penguin at Neko Harbor, Antarctica.
Gentoo Penguins are characterised by a white patch around and behind the eye that joins on the crown. The orange-red lower mandible is also a distinct feature.
Gentoo penguins are the largest of the Pygoscelis penguins, though not by much
they average about 5.5kg and 71cm tall for the southern gentoo and about 0.7kg heavier and 10cm taller for the northern gentoo. The northern subspecies nests on and around the sub-Antarctic island of South Georgia, while the southern subspecies nests as far south as the Antarctic peninsula to 65 degrees south.
Gentoos are one of the most laid back of penguins, while they do have their noisy moments, particularly at nest building time, they are no where near as aggressive and raucous as adélies and chinstraps for instance. By comparison a gentoo colony is a calm and far more sedate place.

Bergeronnette grise
La Bergeronnette grise, aussi appelée Hochequeue gris, est une espèce de petit passereau de la même famille que les pipits et la sentinelle. Cette espèce niche dans la plus grande partie de l'Europe et de l'Asie, ainsi que dans certaines parties de l'Afrique du Nord. Elle est sédentaire dans la partie la plus douce de son habitat et migre vers le sud dans les autres cas. Autrefois, elle était également appelée « lavandière » comme en parle Georges-Louis Leclerc de Buffon dès 1778. Elle est considérée comme un emblème national en Lettonie. 20 05 2020
