Freedom Hall

Freedom Hall is a basketball arena located in Louisville, Ky.

Freedom Hall opened in 1956 as part of the new Kentucky Fair Grounds. It was meant to be the new home for the Louisville Cardinals basketball team from the University of Louisville. The Cardinals opened the stadium with a 10 point win over Notre Dame. In the next 54 seasons, the Cardinals would play their home games here winning an amazing 84% of their home games. They would play their last game here in 2010 with a 10 point win over #1 Syracuse. The basketball team opened the 2010-2011 season in their new arena located in downtown Louisville named the Yum Center.

Professional basketball was played here when the Louisville Colonels of the ABA called Freedom Hall their second home. They originaly played in the Louisville Gardens before playing here from 1970-1976. After 1976, the Colonels would stop operations when most of the ABA teams made a jump to the NBA.

The arena is still used today for concerts and other events.
