I don't have a solution, but I can verify that it's not working correctly. I just did a site wide search for "turtle", set the search criteria to "date taken", and the top 3 results had the "date taken" as 2010, 2006, and 2011, in that order.
I'm using the android version of Google Chrome.

I just did a site wide search for "turtle"
I searched turtle (no quotation marks), I get
relevant - 1,663,485
date uploaded - 575,003
date taken - 355,384
interesting - 1,612,300
and yes, date taken (the relatively few returns that there are) are not in the right order

Same here. I NEED Flickr to fix this issue sooner rather than later as part of my work requires researching via Flickr and so I MUST have this feature working for me to do my work for hundreds of people. Please, please fix it VERY soon!

Well, maybe if more members were to purchase Pro accounts, flickr could prioritize more issues that are an inconvenience, but not necessarily mission critical to the general membership, or "keeping the lights on at night".

Lets see how long a reply takes, it will give an indication of whether this basic feature is seen as being important.

Thanks for letting us know! I was able to reproduce the issue on my end & have passed along a detailed bug report to our engineers.
I'll report back with updates & sorry for the inconvenience in the meantime.

Yes, broken for me as well.
I could fix this little bug (for my search term) by setting a date range in the advanced settings, still the images were out of order.

Still broken two weeks later. 'Date taken' search appears to return results in a completely random order and makes it very difficult to find recent photos.

At the moment, many people cannot afford basic items needed to live, let alone a mediocre subscription service which is not worthwhile for many. I don't upload much content to Flickr (since I don't have much to post) and purely use it for researching. Therefore, as an unemployed person (medical reasons) I cannot afford to waste money on a subscription I don't need. And I can deal with the advertisements. I'm not encouraged to pay for a service when the service I heavily rely on stays broken for more than a few days. Flicker needs to fix this soon.

Brianna Cutting:
many people cannot afford basic items needed to live
Many people let their desire get in the way of prudent judgement, one example - they "need" the latest smart phone and one for their spouse and one each for their children. But I agree with you, many people are up against it with the cost of living today, the cost of shelter, the cost of healthcare, etc.. (A side note), I am confused, you speak of your "work" and you also say you are unemployed ...
Believe me, I want this fixed as well. I was not suggesting that you personally should buy a subscription if it is beyond your current situation, need, or desire. I made a general observation and statement of fact. My point was flickr is a small company, they have to prioritize what they hope to accomplish, what needs fixing first, what will have to wait. I've seen lots of people say here in the forum that they will not pay for flickr if flickr cannot fix problems quickly and completely, it's a bit of a catch 22.
One suggestion made in this thread was to limit the search timeframe using advanced search options. It was pointed out that returns were still not in the right order, but you could look at one day at a time if that would help. If you wanted to elaborate on the nature of your "work" using flickr, maybe we can suggest other temporary workarounds that might help you.

Idk. I have Pro account, and my observations/requests don’t seem to carry any extra weight (nor those of other Pro members). If they did, we’d still have RA, not Notifications.

my suggestion in the meantime would be to filter by date to look at the latest photos, it may take a while to trawl through them but they should all be there.

Why is this problem not yet fixed? It went wrong two months ago. I think if my subscription to flickr hadn't arrived after two months, the attitude of urgency would be somewhat different.

Hi, all,
This issue is definitely on our radar.
While we don't have a concrete timeline for implementing a solution for this yet, we'll definitely let you know once we have more information.
Thanks!

The feature seems to be working properly again now as far as I can tell, it's been sorting correctly for me for a couple of days now. Kinda caught me by surprise when I first realised but it's nice to see it working again.

Still not working for me, in fact at this precise moment in time (12.30pm in the UK) search is behaving very erratically. Some searches almost sorted in date order but some searches failing to find pictures I know are there.
Anyone else having this?

Ingy The Wingy:
Date order is fine for me and has been since the post I put above yours, but if I'm reading correctly the other issue you're describing, I've always had it where sometimes the maximum possible results for a search don't always show, and even when the number is what I know to be the max, not all the photos are visible. Refreshing enough times can make it work but it's not optimal having to refresh. Might be a bug in the way the Flickr search engine looks for results?

Any news? Issue is over 5 months old now !
I keep on doing array-sort on my site resulting in new challenges when over 500 results are to be handled.
Using SORT in the API is an important feature. Please resolve

Not surprising to see this issue has not been fixed after 5 months. Many of us also waiting on a fix for the view count bug that is now in its third month.

katie_ko:
It should not be that hard to fix.
I assume that this bug in fact is in the API flickr.photos.search when the sorting order is date-taken-asc or date-taken-desc, correct?
It would really help if sorting by date taken was working, especially for PRO members that have a very large number of photos on flickr.
I think one work around, in some cases, is to put all the photos in a dummy album and sort the album by date taken. This appears to sort in the correct order.

Please staff I implore you to increase the importance of fixing this issue as soon as possible. In my opinion the inability to search for images by when they were shot greatly reduces the value of this site. If every query for a photograph in a subject group only produces images that were shot months and even years ago which has already been seen many times over, then eventually the searcher stops searching and we all lose.
