Nesting can begin as early as January if the weather conditions are not too harsh, but it usually takes place between April and July.
The nest is usually a platform of floating aquatic plants and anchored to emergent vegetation (algae, reeds). The nest is quite shallow.
The female usually lays 3 to 5 white eggs. Incubation is provided by both parents and lasts 27 to 29 days. The chicks are nidifuges and are fed by both parents. They become independent at the age of 71 to 79 days.
I love the little white markings on its head. I have a special fondness for the loners of this world.

Black Redstart
This is an image of the female at the second site I have been monitoring for many weeks. This year she has had two broods (a first record for Manchester). I think she had not less than three chicks fledge in the first brood. I watched one get predated by a magpie which was not pleasant to watch. She had three chicks in her second brood and they all survived and became independant. Whilst the bird is not affected by my close presence I took this image by lying under some draping Buddleia plants and I thought shooting through them would help give an intimate/secret-world feel. I did not quite pull it off. I am thankfull I did not get stung by bees or wasps of which there were many.
Smudge came to us back in April time as a 12 month rescue 'too hot' to handle by his previous owner,. Quite untrained and rather reactive (in terms of chase) but with a lovely nature. He's what you might call 'very independant, with his own agenda, wherever that may take him! .. which is rather a worry should he get off the long line which he's done only once and disappeared ending up in the middle of nowehere wrapped round a tree! .. he's now gps'ed !! He's going to take a while to bond where I become the centre of his stage I feel, we're getting there slowly . He's also not understanding yet of the 'black clicky box' that his hooman carries round with him so getting any posed shots is more by luck than anything else :) He is good mind, like in this shot, of standing still and looking off into the distance straining to scent, hear or indeed see something that becomes his next job!! ... but I love him :)
The Inca fortress of Ollantaytambo impresses with its dimmensions and its high terraces.
It was under construction for decades at the peak of the Inca Empire, but was never completed due to the Spanish invasion.
In the 16th century, Ollantaytambo was one of the most important places of Inca resistance to the Spanish under the Inca emperor Manco Capac II, who had fled there after failing to recapture Cuzco.
The Spaniards were defeated when they tried to seize the city.
Later, Manco Capac abandoned Ollantaytambo to take refuge in Vilcacamba in the heart of the jungle where an independent Inca kingdom remained during more than thirty years.

Puteaux_La Défense_Tours Kupka_France
Building named after František Kupka.
František Kupka (23 September 1871 – 24 June 1957), also known as Frank Kupka or François Kupka,[1] was a Czech painter and graphic artist. He was a pioneer and co-founder of the early phases of the abstract art movement and Orphic Cubism (Orphism).[2] Kupka's abstract works arose from a base of realism, but later evolved into pure abstract art.
Education
František Kupka was born in Opočno (eastern Bohemia) in Austria-Hungary in 1871. From 1889 to 1892, he studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague. At this time, he painted historical and patriotic themes. Kupka enrolled at the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna, where he concentrated on symbolic and allegorical subjects. He was influenced by the painter and social reformer Karl Wilhelm Diefenbach (1851–1913) and his naturistic life-style. Kupka exhibited at the Kunstverein, Vienna, in 1894. His involvement with theosophy and Eastern philosophy dates from this period. By spring 1894, Kupka had settled in Paris; there he attended the Académie Julian briefly and then studied with Jean-Pierre Laurens at the École des Beaux-Arts.[4][5]
World War I
Kupka served as a volunteer in the First World War, and is mentioned in La Main coupée by Blaise Cendrars. Cendrars describes him as a "proud soldier, calm, placid, strong"... but really too old to be a soldier, being at least 25 years older than the rest. When the regiment set out from Paris for the front in Picardy (they marched all the way on foot) Mme Kupka met the column as they arrived at the La Défense roundabout, near where they lived. She marched with them, carrying her husband's bag and his rifle. She would have marched all the way to the front, but at the end of the first day the colonel had her arrested and sent back to Paris. She later made her way to the front lines to spend time with her husband. Kupka himself left the front due to frostbite in the foot, caused by nights in the trenches waist-deep in freezing water.[6]
Career
Amorpha, Fugue en deux couleurs (Fugue in Two Colors), oil on canvas, 210 × 200 cm, 1912, Narodni Galerie
Kupka worked as an illustrator of books and posters and, during his early years in Paris, became known for his satirical drawings for newspapers and magazines. In 1906, he settled in Puteaux, a suburb of Paris, and that same year exhibited for the first time at the Salon d'Automne. Kupka was deeply impressed by the first Futurist Manifesto, published in 1909 in Le Figaro. Kupka's 1909 painting Piano Keyboard/Lake marked a break in his representational style. His work became increasingly abstract around 1910–11, reflecting his theories of motion, color, and the relationship between music and painting (orphism). In 1911, he attended meetings of the Puteaux Group (Section d'Or). In 1912, he exhibited his Amorpha. Fugue à deux couleurs, at the Salon des Indépendants in the Cubist room, although he did not wish to be identified with any movement. Creation in the Plastic Arts, a book Kupka completed in 1913, was published in Prague in 1923.[7]
The Salon d'Automne of 1912, held in Paris at the Grand Palais from 1 October to 8 November. Kupka's Fugue in Two Colors is exhibited on the left. Other works are shown by Jean Metzinger (Dancer in a Café), Joseph Csaky (Groupe de femmes), Francis Picabia (La Source), Amedeo Modigliani (sculptures) and Henri Le Fauconnier (Mountaineers Attacked by Bears).
In 1931, he was a founding member of Abstraction-Création. In 1936, his work was included in the exhibition Cubism and Abstract Art at the Museum of Modern Art in New York City, and in an important show with another Czech painter, Alphonse Mucha, at the Jeu de Paume in Paris. A retrospective of his work took place at the Galerie Mánes in Prague in 1946. The same year, Kupka participated in the Salon des Réalités Nouvelles, where he continued to exhibit regularly until his death. During the early 1950s, he gained general recognition and had several solo shows in New York.
Between 1919 and 1938 Kupka was financially supported by his good friend, art collector and industrialist Jindřich Waldes who accumulated a substantial collection of his art. Kupka died in 1957 in Puteaux, France.

In Greek mythology, Cerberus (Greek: Κέρβερος Kérberos [ˈkerberos]), often referred to as the hound of Hades, is a multi-headed dog that guards the gates of the Underworld to prevent the dead from leaving. He was the offspring of the monsters Echidna and Typhon, and was usually described as having three heads, a serpent for a tail, and snakes protruding from multiple parts of his body. Cerberus is primarily known for his capture by Heracles, one of Heracles' twelve labours.

The Wandre bridge links, by spanning the Meuse and the Albert canal, Herstal to Liège. Designed by the René Greisch design office, it replaces two independent bridges - one on each waterway - which had become obsolete following the upgrading of the Albert Canal, whose width was reduced from 35 to 85 m. This work, inaugurated in 1989, will be worth a distinction to the office which imagined it, in addition to an undeniable international recognition.
The 524 m long bridge is a cable-stayed structure with a single central pylon, 102 m high, made of reinforced and prestressed concrete. The main spans have a span of 168 m (Meuse) and 144 m (Albert canal) and are suspended from the Y pylon overturned by 19 stay cables (between 73 and 175 m in length spaced every 6 m at the level of the deck). The approach span to the left bank is separated from the rest and curved to compensate for any settlements due to the presence of old mine shafts.
The implementation adopted maintained the continuous use of the road and river axes, so much so that a large part of the deck was carried out on the left bank and put into position by pushing, a new technique for cable-stayed bridges. This world architectural first is adequately enhanced by night lighting implemented from the design stage.
Since 1993, the Wandre bridge has been classified as a major historical heritage monument in Belgium.
Little Missy...not so little anymore....since becoming a big sister she has grown into a full grown big Missy. She has the best little personality...calm...never aggressive (even with strangers coming into her house)...has not been a bother since a little kitten...gentle and now very independant. It took her a bit but she has taken on her little brother with a bit of trepidation...they're not at the stage I would love them to be but the do play tackle together). We will get there.
If you want to have a read about my experience and thoughts on getting my first cat click here.
Remember the cute little shy kitten named Mimi a few images back well she is now an eight month old (still a) kitten.
A very independant and calm little Miss who loves "hunting' her daily fix of flies/bugs and through the window birds, lizards, butterflies...the list goes on. She has been a joy to have in the family...totally converted me from a dog lady to a cat lady.
Today may very well be her last day as an only kitten (child), tomorrow we have a meet and greet with a new little Master...fingers crossed it will go smoothly. I've learnt in this adopting a rescue process - we hoomans are the ones getting vetted/chosen by the little ones (definitely not as easy as you [or I naively] had thought). Hopefully she will like her new little brother and vice versa. She is definitely not enough to go round so the new kitten will be for us as much as for her.
Watch this space!
The passages of unpainted canvas in the sky suggest that the artist was unable to finish this painting before he took his own life in late July 1890. In spring 1891, the work was included in the Salon des Indépendants in Paris, listed with the title Village (Dernière esquisse). Esquisse, French for "sketch," indicates that the work was recognized at the time as either unfinished or as a preparatory stage for a final picture that was never realized.

Chapeau l’ami !
profession reporter
Rouen (France) - I knew Robin a long time ago. He was a young computer scientist who wanted to become a photojournalist. Several attempts at freelancing have ended in failure. He had to go back to his original job to live. And then a few years ago a last attempt was the right one. Passion and stubbornness were the strongest.
Today, he broadcasts his reports through the Sipa Presse agency.
Most of the time, he is in Africa, particularly in Uganda, a country which serves as a hub for him to operate in several neighboring countries. At the moment, he is in France to settle administrative problems which will allow him to work again in Uganda. In the meantime, he covers the demonstrations linked to the pension reform. Despite a certain precariousness linked to his status as an independent journalist, his passion is no longer negotiable.
Hats off friend!

Obviously, it is not like the cathedrals in the Paris region. Although it is not easy to compete with Amiens, Chartres or Reims, Saint André's heterogeneous style is nevertheless unexpected and endearing, especially because of its freestanding belltower. Eleanor of Aquitaine and Louis VII, the future king of France, were married here 1137, as were Anne of Austria and Louis XIII.

Three kilometers from the historic center, near the Paseo Maritimo and the beach of Las Arenas stands a historic and unusual district. Formerly independent, El Cabanyal was a rather messy fishing village but it radically changed its appearance at the end of the 19th century while retaining its authenticity. With its streets parallel to the sea and its grid plan, it is a real pleasure to walk through it. And the latter owes everything to the colors of the houses that line these streets. Covered with colorful tiles, decorated with care, they make this district a real marvel.
True examples of modernism in Valence, they contrast with the more sober buildings in the city centre. It is this popular modernism which makes these attractive blocks of houses attractive and which will be developed in this article. Far from being exhaustive, the list of facades proposed nevertheless allows you to get an idea and to feast your eyes! A few hours are enough to visit El Cabanyal but some restaurants or other tapas bars will make it possible to lengthen the visit, without forgetting the sea, located a stone's throw away.

As I said before, I had a lot of unexpected work on the new house, mainly outside, so I left my camera on the tripod not far from where I was working or on the back terrace, and when I saw something interesting, click… click… click, since the new technology of the new cameras allows shots up to 30 and even more per second!!! Lots of sorting of photos after a session OUF… In August, the young came out of the nest, and it is fascinating to watch them when they beg for food from the parents. In the case of the American Goldfinch, it seems to be the father who does most of the work, and this would be perfectly normal since the female has done a lot. However, I cannot affirm this theory since this is the first time I have had the opportunity to observe this ritual of feeding the chicks. Here, the juveniles are almost completely independent, but, like all teenagers in this world, they like to take advantage of the generosity of their parents, who must, at a certain point, abandon them so that they can fly on their own. One of some 500 photos taken during this session, more to come.
Get your minds out of the gutter, its the slogan for independant trucks! :-P
