Thanks friends!!

:)

(And thanks to erdalito for letting me use the image and mess with the colors of it)

exposed on both sides

So my dear boyfriend Anton decided to TAG me... with the task of choosing a childhood photo of mine...

He knew quite well that I would undoubtedly use this one...

When I look at it, I wish I could see in my mind the memory of it being taken, to see the world through those innocent eyes again for a moment... but unfortunately there is a year of my life that seems a bit fuzzy in my memories, probably the one in which this was taken.

I must have been 5 years old.... we were living in a small beach town called S'illot in Majorca (Spain), where my dad had a hotel...

During my time at home these last weeks, my mother kept saying that there are lots of days where she looks in the mirror and asks herself: "who is this old woman that looks at me?". She believes that the soul doesn't age as fast as the body does. And she's only 55... I will be 33 this summer.

In this photo, she was younger than I am now... full of life and beauty, full of dreams. I look at her smile, at those deep soulful eyes, and somehow it feels safe... and yet a bit melancholic too... I look into my eyes... and also wonder about the miracle of life... "how something this tiny can become something like what I am today"... :-DDD

In his post of his childhood photo, my boyfriend said he never looks back to the past with nostalgia. Well, I do... not because I don't love the present, but because I feel lucky that -despite a few bad bumps in the way that life may have brought- I had a great childhood and youth... Sure many things could have gone or been done differently (God knows I would have come out of the closet waaaaay earlier had I known better), but deep down, in what really matters, this kid that smiled to the uncertain future, has been having it good enough along the way up to today... and I like to remember and cherish every step that brought me here.

And that, as a reminder of it, of the bond and love to my mom, of the good times that were and the better times that I hope may be, this photo has come with me, inside of the original kind of cheap plastic frame it's had forever, anywhere I've been... to every apartment in Barcelona where I lived, to Cuba in my two years there, in Majorca in summer houses or my own apartment before moving here, etc. and now it's here too, in the living room of our studio in New York...

:-)

Finally... I think I want to tag the following 5 people, whom I would love to see as kids...
