The Texas Locomotive

Proud veteran of the Great Locomotive Chase. In 1862, 22 Union raiders led by civilian spy James Andrews infiltrated the Confederacy and seized the Locomotive the General just north of Atlanta, hoping to use the train to destroy the Western and Atlantic Railroad and isolate the city of Chattanooga. They were quickly discovered and pursued by the angry crew of the hijacked train, who managed to commander the Texas steaming South and send it chasing backwards towards their quarry. The chase continued for 116.8 miles before, just short of the Raider's objective, the General ran out of fuel, causing the Union spies to scatter. All were eventually caught, and seven, including Andrews were hung as spies. Though they failed in their objective, the Raiders were the first recipients of the Congressional Metal of Honor.
