Sterchi Building, Gay Street, Knoxville, TN

Built circa 1921, this Classical Revival and Chicago School-style high-rise building, was designed by R. F. Graf and built for the Sterchi Brothers Furniture Company. The building has been adaptively reused as the Sterchi Lofts, a luxury apartment building. The building features a terra cotta-clad front facade and buff brick side and rear facades, three large banks of windows with metal spandrel panels on the second through ninth floors, arched windows on the ninth floor, a terra cotta cornice, a first floor storefront with a decorative metal canopy, and three-over-three and six-over-six double-hung windows on the side and rear facades. The building is a contributing structure in the Southern Terminal and Warehouse Historic District, listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1985.
