Octagonal Garden, Middleton Place, Summerville, SC

The formal gardens at Middleton Place were originally laid out in the 18th Century, but fell into ruins following the US Civil War and the 1886 Charleston Earthquake. They were restored in the early 20th Century by the descendants of the Middleton family, with the gardens being opened to the public in the 1920s.
