NYC - El Quinto Pino: Uni Panini
The Uni Panini at El Quinto has had its virtues extolled by myriad publications and racked up many sandwich of the year accolades. The slim panino made from a toasted ficelle from Tom Cat Bakery is filled with fresh sea urchin and a Korean mustard oil.
El Quinto Pino, at 401 West 24th Street, is a multi regional Spanish tapas bar from husband and wife chef team, Alex Raij and Eder Montero. The restaurant, whose name means "the fifth pine", a Spanish idiom for the boondocks, was first opened as a small tapas bar with no tables by Raij in 2007 with partners Heather Belz and Mani Dawes, the team behind Tia Pol. Rail left to open up nearby Txikito, and then Brooklyn's La Vara with her husband, before they returned to assume the El Quinto Pino lease in 2010.
