NYC - Battery Park City: Museum of Jewish Heritage

The Museum of Jewish Heritage, located at 36 Battery Place in battery Park City, opened in 1997 as a living memorial to the Holocaust. The museum's $21.5 million core building was designed by Kevin Roche of Roche-Dinkeloo. The core building features a six-sided shape and a six-tiered, louvered roof rising 85 feet in the air, which are reminiscent of the six-pointed Star of David and symbolic of the six million Jews who perished in the Holocaust. The four-story Robert M. Morgentheau Wing opened in 2003, adding 82,000-square feet of exhibition space and Andy Goldsowrth's Garden of Stones.
