Russell's Market - Niles
Russell's markets, an east bay chain, opened a supermarket in the Niles district of Fremont, CA in 1957. By the mid-1970s, Bill Rebello, a Niles native who had managed the Niles Russell's, bought out the store and renamed it Rebello's market. At some point, the market was downsized, with the rear of the building sub-divided into two tenant spaces. The market has been Mr. Mikey's Country Store since at least 2004. It is a real gem, and managed to find space for a deli, produce, dairy and lunchmeat departments in the compact store. It sure is nice to see a mom-and-pop neighborhood market in this day and age, and is a real boon for the Niles district, which is otherwise a food desert. 37161 Niles Blvd
