D.C. Booth NFH Hatchery Helper showing off their catch

D.C. Booth National Historic Fish Hatchery annually hosts the summer “Hatchery Helper” program in which 30+ seventh and eighth grade students volunteer their time and labor to work at the Hatchery. They also receive outdoor education on a variety of different topics from fish biology to bird banding and identification. They loved being able to fish. When it was time to go, it took several attempts to get them to leave..."Just one more cast!" They all caught several sunfish. The size of the fish didn't matter at all, just the thrill of catching one was good enough for them! Credit: April Gregory
