Château de Gruyères

The Grueyeres Castle, one of the most visited in Switzerland, was built in the 13th century as the residence of the Counts of Gruyeres, but was heavily restored in the 19th century. Its plan still features the traditional squre model of the ancient forticiations in the Kingdom of Savoy. Since 1938, the castle is a property of the Canton of Fribourg and is used as a museum.
