Female Common Blue butterfly (Polyommatus icarus) on Bird's Foot Trefoil

This female Common Blue is resting on Bird's Foot Trefoil (Lotus corniculatus), which is also its larval foodplant. Females range in colour from nearly all brown to nearly all blue, but they can always be distinguished from males by the orange lunules round the edge.
