Yellow-bellied Siskin
This attractive little finch is found in high altitude oak forests from Costa Rica down to Bolivia and Venezuela. It is popular in the cage-bird trade and has been trapped extensively, but still remains quite common. This is a male with black head and upperparts whereas the female is olive green. This one was feeding on berries high above Savegre in Costa Rica. I thought the pink flowers and berries provided an attractive bokeh background. Its scientific name xanthogastra translates as yellow-belly, just like its English name.
