DSCN4400

North Wales. A walkway along the top of the walls of Conwy Castle. Construction of Conwy Castle began in 1283 and was completed by 1289. The castle was an important part of King Edward I's plan of surrounding Wales in "an iron ring of castles" to subdue the rebellious population. North Wales today has more castles per square mile that anywhere else. What struck me and caused me to take this shot was the sight of the Welsh National Flag (The Red Dragon on the colours of the House of Tudor) flying so proudly over a castle intended for the domination of Wales.
