Female... maybe not as spectacular as the male (in the previous photo), but I think she's very pretty too.

Plateau de Marcuello - Hoya de Huesca - Aragon - Espagne
The Alpine Accentor is a high mountain bird but in winter it is forced to descend to lower altitudes (here the plateau is at 1000m altitude),
It is not very shy and can be easily approached at a few steps.
This attitude is usually found in birds living in remote areas where there is little human presence.
It feeds on the ground where it moves by small jumps by scanning the surface.

Usually, I tend to choose "clean" photos, that is, photos that show the most detail possible of the bird, and although I have a reasonable number of "clean" photos of this species, I would like to show this one. I can't really explain why, but I really like it!

MALEZYA: Frayzer Tepesi "Bukit Fraser"; 12.02.2016

The Paz de las Aves's people call it very appropriated the Shakira as she perform an uninterrupted belly dance. Very, very funny to see but terrible to allow us an unshaken shot.
This is one of five antpittas species possible to see at Paz de las Aves. We had the opportunity to see 4 of them in a single morning.
They well deserve the opportunity to continue the great work. Please visit this fundraiser if you could/wish to contribute.

Paz de Las Aves
Equador
Until some years ago I didn't know about antbirds, antpittas and so on. My idea of tropical bird was parrots, hummingbirds and tucanos, but now I easily give up on a common colorful bird to have the opportunity to photograph a tapaculo or a antpitta. However those species are not easy to spot and even more difficult to photograph and the probablility of see one without help of local guide is very low if not zero.
In Refugio Paz de las Aves, Angel Paz with his brother Rodrigo was one of the first to realize they can attract this (once near-mythical) bird with worms.
Every day, very early in the morning, Rodrigo digs a well in the ground to collect the worms and, he explained to me, cuts them into small segments so that the bird doesn't catch just one and disappear again into the deep forest, without giving the observers a chance to observe and photograph it.
Now they face the wish of the other seven siblings to sell the property. You may see here all the story.
A fund raising was launched by Angel son, Vinício, to help them to maintain the property. If you wish/could help them you can contribute here. As a today they already get $102k of $155K needed to pay to the others sisters and brothers.
