Dreaming of Monkey Island
I've had many wonderful times down at Trebarwith Strand. I've surfed, swam, sunbathed, photographed, explored, climbed and shared it with someone I love.
A few years back we even considered if we could get married there, tides allowing. There were housing searches and talk of moves. I remember saying to my partner that Gull Rock looked a lot like a Monkey's Head. Well I learned recently that it is affectionately known as Monkey Island by the locals and visitors alike.
I dreamt once that I'd got washed out to see and ended up clinging to Monkey Island awaiting rescue. It wasn't a terrifying nightmare as such but an unusually vivid dream.
It was with great sadness though that I learned not long ago of a tragedy at Trebarwith strand when a brother scattering the ashes of his recently departed sister was swept away by the rough sea to his death. There were flowers fastened to the railings not far from the spot my fiancee and I took this shot.
I only equate Trebarwith with great happiness, so this is just a tip of my hat to those who will find it hard to see beyond these tragic events. I'll spare a thought for them each time I visit.
