St Thomas Episcopal Church

St. Thomas Episcopal Church, at 18th and Church Streets NW near Dupont Circle, was designed by Philadelphia architect Theophilus Chandler and completed in 1893. The church was noted for its soaring main tower, more than 100 feet tall. Sadly, the church was destroyed by arson in 1970. Its ruins stood for many years in a park on the site and were recently incorporated into a controversial new modernist building.
