Feather Edging
Feather edging is the result of fine finish sanding done to prepare a damaged surface for repainting, to eliminate visible edges between new paint and old. From top to bottom on the auto body example above is a sanded transition from nearly bare metal through primer, paint, and clear-coat. Each feather edge shown here is between 1/4 to 1/2 inch wide. Sandpaper grits from 150 to 220 grit were used so far. 400 grit is next to remove the fine scratches.
