Blue Fungus Close Up

An unbelievably vivid blue fungi seen on a walk around Lake Matheson.

This photograph has not been manipulated. The fungi was really that colour. It was the only such fungi seen on a walk around Lake Matheson in New Zealand. It was growing on a fallen tree trunk.

Since returning to the UK I have researched this fungus and discovered that it's Latin name is Entoloma Hochstetteri. It grows only in New Zealand and is thought to be inedible. Nobody has yet tasted it to see if it is actually poisonous! To learn more about this fungus follow this link: virtualmycota.landcareresearch.co.nz/webforms/vM_Species_...
