Wardle Storeys

Wardle Storeys, British Xylonite or British Industrial Plastics, the factory at Brantham, Suffolk has been known by all 3 names.

Ive had a bit of a love hate relationship with this place over the years. I visited on the day it closed in March 2007 yet back then my camera skills were not up to the job of a night time visit and i failed to get any decent photos. We tried to go back several times in the daylight over the next few months but the site was just too active with demolition guys and once the buildings started to fall i must admit i gave up not realising the true significance of the place!

Fast forward to 2009 and after a few years of thinking it was all gone i got a heads up to go back as some parts were left. I did go back and what i found was utterly amazing, one of the best industrial sites in terms of its history and 'whats left over' that ive ever seen. By then kids had moved in and started trashing the place but the general feel of this truly 'British' company (in name and style!) was still intact.

Fate had one more twist however as the very same trip as i took these photos we were falsely arrested and had our cameras confiscated for 8 months, Xylonite pics and all. Its all sorted now (expect alot of photos from July 09 popping up soon!) but if your wondering why this is so late thats your reason!
